Frankford Arsenal Hinge-Top Ammo Boxes with True Mechanical Hinge for Ammunition Storage and Organization

These have mechanical hinges rather than flexible ones molded with tops and bottoms. Don't know how many of those boxes I've had the hinges break on. The ones I bought fit .243 Win ammo perfectly. Clear enough to identify bullet types.

I wanted a 100 round storage box that would accommodate rounds for my new Henry H010BG in 45-70 Government. I normally buy MTM products, but I didn't like the design for the 45-70. I also wanted a storage solution that allowed for the cartridges to be stored with the projectile up. I also wanted the individual boxes to fit in the MTM 50 caliber ammo boxes for long-term storage. Using MTM products for rifle rounds such as .30-30, 6.5 Creedmoor, .224 Valkyrie, 6.5 Grendel, I am able to get 4 MTM RL-100 100-round boxes into the 50 caliber ammo box, whereas beefier calibers, such as 458 SOCOM, I am able to get 6 50-round MTM RSLD-50-10 boxes into the 50 caliber ammo box. I purchased 6 FA 514 and 4 FA 1009 to assess which would be best fit, hoping that the 4 100-round boxes would do the trick, as well as fitting in the MTM AC11 Ammo Can. Both the FA1009 and the FA 514 are advertised as being able to hold of 45-70 Government. Upon arrival, I placed 50 rounds of 45-70 Government in the FA 514 and 100 rounds of 45-70 Government in the FA 1009. The FA 514 successfully held 50 rounds of 45-70 Government with the projectile up, and the lid closed securely. The FA 1009 was more disappointing. Not only did the of 45-70 Government rounds NOT fit in with the projectile up, but even with the projectile down, the rims of the cartridges overlapped quite a bit. The MTM AC11 accommodated 6 FA 514 and 4 FA 1009 with a wee bit of room to spare. As an additional test I attempted to place 100 empty cases of 45 Long Colt in the FA 1009. Due to the horizontal partitions in the FA 1009 being semi-removed, all case rims overlapped. In addition, the left and right sides of the FA 1009 bowed inward slightly, causing those two columns of cases to be troublesome to place. Thus, I shall be using 6 FA 514 and one AC11 to store 300 rounds of 45-70 Government. I shall find some other purpose for the FA 1009 boxes, or maybe I just need another gun in a caliber I don't already have that fits these boxes...sounds like a justifiable reason to me :)

Sturdy and a most convenient way to store my hand loads! They stack well and just make storage easier!

I’m so happy I found these! The hinge is awesome and the lid stays Up at 90 degree’s so you dint have to fight it while filling or removing . The latch stays put . These are my new go to’s and I’m replacing all of my boxes with them .
