Good alternative dongle for Mac Mini; used mainly for gaming

We use a 2018 Mac Mini for connecting multiple Xbox One controllers via Bluetooth. Due to limitations of the built in Bluetooth antenna design, it's hard to have a sit back on the chair/couch gaming room experience. Unless you're quite close to the Mac mini, the signal doesn't carry well enough to rely on. So, I saw this Hideez dongle suggested by someone on MacRumors and thought it was a low risk option. It's delivered in every way.We have the Hideez dongle plugged into a USB 3 hub which is then plugged into the USB A port on the back of the Mac Mini. The hub is also located on the top of the desk so there is a better line of sight. But now you can comfortably be 10-15 feet away from the Mac Mini and have multiple controllers firing simultaneously. One note: it does require a one time simple Terminal command on macOS to get the Mac to recognize this dongle as the controller. However, I found the instructions to do this surprisingly clear on their tech-support page. I usually have pretty low expectations for instructions from random third-party accessories. Once you enter the command and follow the instructions, which take about two minutes, you then re-pair your Bluetooth accessories to the dongle and then it just works. You see your Bluetooth accessories in the macOS Bluetooth system preferences area just like normal.Another Note: there is no way to permanently make this the primary controller. On a go forward basis, if you ever restart your Mac we have to just literally unplug the dongle for 2 seconds and plug it back in and the Mac recognizes it as the primary controller again. This is how it's designed. But it's a minor hassle in exchange for vastly improved Bluetooth range.

So far so good, works as advertised

Just set this up in about 10 minutes and works great! I work as a graphic designer and photographer and bought this to connect my Intuos Pro Tablet to my 2013 rMBP running the last version of Mojave (10.14.6). I have it connected to an external monitor and run a Bluetooth trackpad, keyboard and mouse for a desktop experience with no issues... until I tried to also connect the tablet--that's when I'd get the awful lag.Wacom recommended I buy a BT dongle which led me to this item after some research. I used the terminal method, and this works awesome. One thing I overlooked was that you have to disconnect/reconnect all your previous devices, or if you have multiple BT profiles like on the Logitech MX Master mice, you need to connect using a different profile. Once I straightened that out I have all 4 devices connected and working smoothly. Will see how it performs over a couple hours of sketching and editing on the tablet.BONUS TIP: If you hold down the option key and click the Bluetooth icon on the menu bar, you'll get additional info as well as the signal strength for each device (RSSI).

Did not work and then it physically broke

This did not work with my Mac mini, and the metal frame pulled off within the first few times removing it.I bought this because I had trouble with the built-in bluetooth on my Mac mini. I purchased this device because it explicitly indicated it worked with Macs. After inserting and rebooting the computer, this bluetooth dongle did not immediately become active, which wasn't necessarily that surprising; I wasn't sure what I would need to do to have the Mac OS start using this as the default bluetooth. But more surprising is that it did not show up as a USB device in the USB device tree from the "system report". I also noticed it was fairly hot. I removed and reinserted it a couple times, and then I inserted it into the USB hub in my monitor, where it still wasn't recognized. When I removed it from this USB connector, the metal frame of this USB dongle remained in the connector, and the internals pulled out. Without the metal frame, my finger touched the PCB, and it was extremely hot.I returned it. I haven't yet followed up trying a different external bluetooth with my Mac mini.

Works okay, but online instructions don't...

I have my M1 Mac mini (running Monterey) inside a small closet pantry next to where our monitor, keyboard and mouse are. Unfortunately, the built-in Bluetooth is not very good - the pointer lags and jumps around, possibly because there is a steel vent which runs up the wall between the Mini and where we use the mouse (Apple Bluetooth "Magic Mouse").But the monitor (Apple 24") has USB slots in the back, so I was hoping this thing would help, and it does appear to, so far. But the instructions at dongle.hideez.com don't work.Specifically, "Step 4":"The next time you turn on your computer, please pull out and insert the Dongle into the USB port, and the system will use the Hideez Dongle."Yeah, no. Bluetooth goes away and won't come back unless you restart (again) with the dongle plugged in (and left plugged in). Also, this shows up in the Mini's "About this Mac/system report" as "THIRD_PARTY_DONGLE", not "Cambridge silicon radio".So, five stars for the hardware, down to four stars for the instructions.

Heaven Sent saved my 2010 MacBook Pro.

As the title says I have a 2010 MacBook Pro. I've updated the hard drive, memory and replaced the battery. What I was unable to do was upgrade my bluetooth from version 2.1 to 4.0. Version 2.1 constantly drops out when using newer devices it was so annoying. They don't make an upgrade 4.0 bluetooth board for my mid 2010 MacBook. When I did connect using the original 2.1 Bluetooth, the transmit distance was very limited and if I moved the laptop just a little, it would drop out. I decided to try the Hideez USB Bluetooth dongle. This is like having a new computer. The bluetooth is so strong I can go in another room with no dropouts. The setup instructions are lacking to say the least but once you get it setup you will be glad you purchased this little devices. I can't say enough good things about the product. At one point I had considered purchasing a new laptop because the bluetooth was so bad sothis little device save me thousands of dollars.
