Medieval and Renaissance Paned Slops and Breeches Pattern

A clean pattern with reasonably clear instructions. The best thing about the Patterns of Time line is the instructions - which are always written so as to provide a number of different variations on a theme.

Have been wanting this pattern for a long time. Hope to use it very soon and get an outfit made with it!

This is a fine pattern to start with if you already have experience and want to cut some time off your patterning. It's easy to use and has clear simple directions but needs a few fitting tweaks. There's no grading in the crotch between sizes which is dumb. Seriously. We all know that. Bigger sizes need more rise in the crotch. But it's also REALLY easy to add your own, if you know to do that. I like the suggestions for how to customize your panes. I wish there was a pattern for a hose extension (a piece that extends below the slops that fits closely to the thigh). But I made a pair of paned slops from this pattern and they came out pretty well.

The variety of slops & breeches you can make is a blessing and is what mainly attracted me to the pattern in the first place. I found the suggestions for the different paned slops & breeches VERY helpful; however, I found the directions a bit hard to follow. I would absolutely recommend this to any of my experienced costuming friends, but not to those just learning.

I go to a lot of Renaissance Faires and construct my own costumes. I've been looking for a pattern just like this and now I can add more of a sense of authenticity to my costumes.

I have not got a chance to make these yet as I am waiting to find some trim for them before I start. The patterns look pretty straight forward though. The pattern will accomodate a wide range of sizes and looks fairly easy to adjust. Some experience would be helpful in sewing.
