Stone Soup (Aladdin Picture Books) Review: One of the most subversively powerful stories we give children. - On the surface, Stone Soup is a simple folktale: strangers arrive, a “magical” stone becomes an excuse for everyone to contribute, and a village ends up sharing a feast no one believed they could afford. But the deeper lesson is extraordinary: Scarcity dissolves when everyone brings what they already have. There’s no hero. No sacrifice. No punishment. Just a reminder that community is built from participation, not perfection. In a world where adults are constantly told: • “you’re on your own,” • “protect what’s yours,” • “resources are limited,” Stone Soup quietly teaches the opposite operating system: abundance emerges from collaboration, not hoarding. It’s the kind of story that lodges in the nervous system and grows with you. Read it to a kid, but notice what it says to the adults in the room too. We would be living in a very different society if more of us remembered this tale is not fantasy — it’s instruction. Review: My Favorite Childhood Book - I decided to order my favorite childhood books. These beloved books were read to me by Captain Kangaroo. I also purchased several others he read to many of us. I realize now these were important stories and he knew it. Most of them were about giving and being kind to others. So in honor of him and introducing these memorable books, I purchased the Originally illustrated choices. Some are not very fancy or colorful, but they mean the world to me.

One of the most subversively powerful stories we give children.

Great book
I bought this book for my six year old grandson and we read it every night before bed. I love how it tells about sharing with others and how the peasants had changed their minds at the end.

A SPECIAL TIME TO BOND WITH YOUR CHILDREN
THIS IS A GREAT BOOK FOR LEARNING HOW TO SHARE. yEARS AGO I PURCHASED BOOKS SUCH AS wHAT TO SAY,DEAR OR WHAT TO DO ,. DEAR. aLL OF MY 4 CHILDREN ARE GREAT READERS AS WHEN THEY WERE SMALL I READ MANY BOOKS TO THEM UNTIL THEY STARTED READING ON THEIR OWN. OF COURSE WE DIDN'T HAVE CELL PHONES BUT TAKING THE TIME TO READ TO YOUR CHILDREN IS IMPORTANT.

An "oldie" but definitely a "goodie"!
Read this when I was in school 65 years ago. Definitely showed how people can come together even when fears of the unknown are faced. COMMUNITY was shown. That was the important part of the story.

Classic Story for Young and Old
I purchased this book along with the Stone Soup memory game for a recent visit with the grandkids (ages 3, 5, and 8). We also made a batch of stone soup together for supper. The book, the game and cooking the meal together made for a truly memorable evening. A real winner!

Wonderful Classic that Serves as a Spring Board for Fun activities
I read Stone Soup to my kids for the old-world feel of the story. Preschoolers will need the story explained or simplified. They learn about another time and place, about the virtues of sharing and community, and it's a sneaky way to get them to try vegetable soup. We make our own stone soup from time to time, because the book has given it a certain mystique. Try making vegetable cut outs from colored paper and put them into a pot as you read. The kids love it!

Unique
Kids seemed to like the story. I liked it because I wasn’t familiar with the story and wanted to know more about the topic. Now I know a couple of different tales but similar connotations.

We used this book as a give away to a family event. The parents and children loved how the story extended as they cleaned, chopped and cooked soup for themselves. They got to take their creations home with them.

Livro de infância favorito do meu marido. Encontrei o título facilmente na Amazon e a entrega foi bem rápida. Meu marido ficou muito emocionado com o presente e guarda com muito carinho. A história do livro é linda e tem uma preciosa lição.

Lovely narration. Classically paced. Illustrations are a refreshing change to the colour-attack, clipart, emoji-faced, budget drawings you see in 98% of illustrated books. Perfect for my Reception class. How, on Earth, did you get it to me so fast? 19 hours. I almost feel sorry for the people responsible for maintaining that level of efficiency.
