Great photographs with brief descriptions

A bit more of a "picture book" than I hoped for but the photos are beautiful. I did order it used but was still surprised at the amount of wear on the pages. No tears, just a lot of color staining in the white areas of the pages but the photos look fine.

The pictures are magnificent! It brought back wonderful memories from my trip.

I have been to the Olympic National park and the pictures in this book are very true to life. the photography of this truly stunning place is very well done.

The book begins with a short preface on the author’s personal relationship to the park. The rest consists of photos (with captions) only. The author was born and raised on the Olympic Peninsula and has been a park ranger, so he knows the park thoroughly.The photos are generally of good quality though few are anything very special. The main subjects of the photos fall into following arbitrary classes: ocean shore 16, forest interior / trees 14, mountain scenery 12, creek/waterfall 11, lower plants / fungi 7, wildlife 6, building 5, lake 3, other 4.The layout is problematic. Many photos fill one full page and stretch 1.5 inches to the facing page. Due to the fold, those photos are effectively 1.5 inches narrower than they are meant to be. Other photos fill only a small part of the page; as the author has used a large-format film camera the photos could be much larger without any loss of quality.The captions generally give the location, sometimes also plant names etc.

Wer sich für diesen Park im Bundesstaat Washington interessiert, sollte sich dieses wirklich wunderschöne Buch mit einfach suuuuper tollen Aufnahmen kaufen. Nicht nur, dass die Stadt Forks (Twilight) und auch La Push mit seinem tollen Strand hier zu finden sind, der Olympic National Park bietet für jeden Naturfreund genau das Richtige. Im Westen wunderschöne, kilometerlange Strände, "mitten drin" der gigantische Regenwald (Weltnaturerbe) der vom Nord-Kalifornien bis fast Alaska reicht, viele große Seen und im "Osten" die Bergkette mit dem Mount Olymp. Einfach kaufen und sich an den wirklich wunderschönen Aufnahmen erfreuen.
