How long are the poles ? Would they be long enough to use on a high top van ?

There are only 2 poles supplied which are for the away end, the near end of the awning straps to the van/car. To cut down on the faff of strapping the awning to the car you could buy 2 further adjustable poles from a different supplier, so the awning becomes free standing. Then just back up under the awning to the required position and lower the adjustable poles to the required height.

I notice some of the photos the rope is attached to the ground and not the car. Is this possible? I do t like the idea of stuff cliped on to my wheels

The canopy does attach to the ground at the front of the canopy by the poles. The back of the canopy attaches to the cars back windows by the suction cups, then the rope is attached to the wheels at the back of the car. But if you want to you could attach the rope to the ground by extending the rope and pegging it out into the ground, but still using the suction cups on the back windows of the car. Or You could buy 2 extra poles and inserting the poles into gold rings on the corners of the canopy and not using the suction cups on the car. When using only the poles, you'll need to buy more tent rope and tent pegs to secure the canopy property to the ground. Hope this helps Your sincerely Mick.L
