Why did you choose this product over others?: Fitted to a double door shed, one on each door due to the convenient reversible long throw option. A very tidy appearance on the outside of the doors, convenient thumb turn to lock doors from the inside. Straightforward to fit and secures the doors nicely. The supplied drill bits are a bonus and worked well. As shed doors aren’t very thick, although mine were 28mm log lap, a piece of wood for packing (plywood, pine .. whatever you have) needs to be added to the inside of the shed doors to ensure the external part of the lock finishes tidily outside the shed. Also when sizing that piece of wood watch where the lock fittings attach to, or go through it; don’t get that wrong like me and put screws through the padding piece which get in the way!!! Use the supplied template to check. They are a very long throw as described and this provides a secure lock across the 2 doors. Or very secure if you double up the locks at different heights on the doors. BTW My shed has extra height doors - 2 metres - so that is why I doubled up.

Purchased this GateMate Long Throw Gate Lock for added safety and security on my outside gate. I initially ordered the wrong size (70mm) but was able to return it with no issues and received a prompt refund. I reordered the correct size (50mm), and it fits perfectly. The product is exactly as described, sturdy, and well-made. Works smoothly and gives peace of mind. Highly recommend!

Bought this for a large outdoor Gate and specifically this one because it only requires a key on one side. It terms of installation and purpose I'd give it 5 stars. However in terms of function & reliability I've knocked a star off because after only a month or so of use the throw is no longer moving as smoothly as it did & after just a few days of rain it's got rust showing on it. I've rubbed grease around the throw and sprayed WD into the mechanism as best as I can, hopefully this will keep it going!

Brought this lock for gate security but, also more of a visual deterrent than actual security because if someone wanted to they could easier climb up and over my standard 5ft garden gate and 6ft wall. However. The fact that the lock is fitted hopefully will help deter the opportunistic "no-good" passing by. The lock is very easy to fit for anyone who can use a electric drill and electric (or manual) Screwdriver. The two drills required to fit the lock are also both supplied with the kit. Nice touch, although most general DIYers would have these I'm sure. The adhesive template that comes with this also makes location of drilling the screwholes and lock barrel so very simple. Comes with 5 keys. Another good thing is that these locks can be fitted to either a left or right opening gate. There are cheaper locks on the market but, I wanted a quality product and the "Gatemate" that I purchased, item No. 1490086 had very good reviews generally and was the same price on their own web site. I did read some reviews stating that over time the stainless steel bolt tends to stick but, I don't expect this to happen as the bolt mount has ample room to enter and it even has a plastic "wedge" type spring inside to press against the bolt when engage to stop it from rattling but, time will tell if this is an issue. If it is, I'll update this review then. I installed it on Sunday 25th Oct 2023. If the date you are reading this is a long time passed this date then this review still stands as is. Overall I'm very pleased with this gate lock.

Replaced old gatemate like for like so knew what I was getting. These locks are quality and really simple to put onto a gate. Just make sure you measure correctly and get correct size. Old one had not been looked after and they need a little lubrication to ensure the bolt doesn’t stick so swapped it for new as we inherited the old one when we moved in. Really happy gate can now lock easily and securely and we can open with key from other side providing further security

The product looks well built and looks to be well finished and that's all. The key operates the euro profile cylinder on the front of the gate as expected. However, it is possible to to just simply reach over the gate and open the lock by sliding the bolt freely and easily to open the lock mechanism. Basically the locking bolt is not deadlocked in position with the key. In my opinion, by definition this renders the "lock" useless and really a lock at all. It is merely a bolt operated by a key that gives no more protection than a latch bolt fitted on a gate. Would be thieves can reach over a gate and open both in the same way. After challenging the UK supplier direct they say that this is how the lock is designed to work? Unbelievable really. Don't waste your money. Get a cheap latch bolt instead because this offers the same level of security.

Thumb lock very usefull so as not to have to keep keys handy.

The lock is very good quality. The pin has a little rust mark on it but otherwise all good. Just needed to touch up with some anti rust paint.
