Das Buch zeigt an ausführlichen Beispielen alle Arranngiertechniken für Big Band. Die Texte und die begleitenden Notenbeispiele ergänzen sich sehr gut und lassen wenig Fragen offen (einiges muss einem doch immer noch ein Lehrer vermitteln, geht mir jedenfalls so). Toll ist die CD. Auf dieser sind die unterschiedlichen Arrangiertechniken zu hören. Also: Wie klingt eine Technik, wenn sie von bestimmten Instrumentengruppen gespielt wird, wie klingen unterschiedlichen Arrangierlösungen für eine Phrase? Das hat mir immer gefehlt. Ich habe zwar Drop-Techniken gelernt oder Four Way Closed. Aber wie klingt das dann? Hier kann man es hören. Prima!

Ce livre, dans lequel je suis en train de me plonger, me permet de faire le lien avec les enseignements que j'ai reçus de Joseph Makholm (ancien élève de Berklee), mon professeur de composition et d'arrangement jazz à la Bill Evans Piano Academy de Paris. Je savais écrire pour quintette et pour septette, j'apprends désormais à composer pour big band. Cet ouvrage est un régal : explications très claires et surtout, tous les exemples sont joués afin de bien cerner les mélanges de timbres et les effets que l'on peut écrire pour tous ces instruments. Un régal, je vous dis !
