This is a well written, thoughtful and comprehensive study guide!
The PMP Study Guide by Belinda S. Goodrich is an excellent resource for those preparing for the PMP certification exam. I highly recommend it as an important and useful tool. This well written book is comprehensive in content and in it’s approach to addressing the amount of information necessary to master. The guide contains content on how to prepare for taking the exam and how to deal with the human aspect of anxiety during preparation and during the actual exam. The chapter on the PMP exam gives information on the entire process, not just the exam itself. Understanding the application process and record keeping for potential auditing takes some of the mystery and fear out of becoming a certified PMP. The explanation of the exam experience, exam anxiety and strategy are all very valuable as the exam itself is challenging. This is information you won’t learn elsewhere unless someone who has been through the exam explains this to you.Chapters in the guide are organized in a way that makes sense. Each chapter provides a scope of what is covered and includes a detailed explanation of important concepts, along with vocabulary tied to that content. Thorough out the guide HINTS are included. These bring focus to elements that are important to consider and to solidify your understanding. The topics highlighted are those for you to think about both for exam preparation and for being a good PM. Through these HINTs you get a fuller picture of the chapter content in a different way by considering varying views on a topic. This helps with your learning by reinforcing key concepts.Understanding the concepts tied to ITTOs, not just trying to memorizing them, is well covered. The description of each is presented in a summary fashion and is a very helpful way of learning and how they apply across the 49 processes. If I had thought of ITTOs in this way I would have saved myself hours of studying. The information presented on ITTOs sets a strong foundation in how they are utilized in managing projects.Key concepts are made clearer via the use of diagrams and graphics presented throughout the guide. This content allows you to visualize the concepts covered and is a key technique to help you solidify your understanding. Adults learn in different ways and the use of graphics allows for the reader to digest information in a clear manner. Exercises are also included throughout the guide to check understanding as you progress through your studying. The use of a combination of methods to explain the vast amount of content is very effective. I find this particularly useful in the chapter covering the topic of project schedule planning. The subject of procurement was one that gave members of my PMP study group some trouble (we used a different guide). This study guide covers the processes for this knowledge area well. The information presented on controlled a project is well written including good exercises and graphics along with the written text. The formulas you need to understand for these processes are addressed in a clear and complete manner. Taking the time to work through the exercises for topics such as earned value, forecasting and TCPI are well worth it. Make sure to work on you exam dump sheet as highlighted. The need for memorization of this information is called out and the guide allows you to thoroughly work through it and establish a level of confidence. The practice questions are very representative of those on the actual exam. When I consider these questions as compared to those included in other resources, those in this guide as excellent. You need to avoid just working on questions that are too simple and straight forward. The questions in this guide give you the opportunity to work through questions that are situational in nature, which is exactly what you will see as common on the exam.Remember to also access the additional information that is on line and available to you when you purchase this guide. The PMP spreadsheet is a useful tool for capturing your hours of working on projects you’ll need as part of the application process. The Quick Start Guide covers a wide range of topics that will give you a strong start on your journey toward certification.

I passed the PMP only using this guide to study
In fairness, I've been working in Project Management for about 15 years and had been putting off taking the exam. I am also usually pretty good at tests. With those qualifiers in mind, I do have to say that this is the only book I purchased to prepare for the exam. It is largely well written and has some good suggestions to aid retention. For me, it's important that I understand a process -- not just memorize information -- in order to learn, and I found this book did a great job explaining the processes, knowledge areas, formulas, and input and outputs.I do have to say that due to the gap between when I purchased the book and when I actively studied I also bought the online quiz access. I found the online questions, quizzes and tests to be exactly the same as what's in the book with the added benefit that re-takes of them will mix up possible answers. Other than that, I kind of regretted that purchase. This book may not be great for people who are looking for a crash course. It took me about two weeks of evening study to get to the point I felt really confident that I knew what I needed to in order to confidently take the exam. The quizzes and exams included are helpful at measuring your understanding of the material; but, I didn't find them very similar to the exam questions I was presented. Of course, the PMP exam has a vast repository of questions -- so, that's not to say there is NO correlation, I just didn't experience it myself. Finally, (and the reason for my 4/5 rating) if you're in to grammar and consistency, there are parts of this book that will drive you nuts. There is also an answer key for chapter twelve that isn't correct. If you could care less about grammar and don't mind that seeing the WRONG answer for a couple of questions, I'm sure it's fine.Best wishes.

A real good self-study book with very helpful and good hints and good excercises. I passed the exam at the first try after repeating the whole book and all questions 3 days prior to the exam.
