TIMKENSET49 Bearing Set

Nice Bearings
We needed to replace wheel bearings on a PT Cruiser. Multiple forums recommended Timken SET49. Pressing the bearings onto the hubs was a smooth and easy process (when using a bearing press). After installation the new bearings are working as expected. Glad we followed the recommendation to use Timken SET49. If you are replacing pressed on bearings we also recommend considering new wheel hubs. Looking at the cost of new hubs vs. taking the time to cleanup and re-use the old ones was a great choice for us. The new hub gives you all new wheel studs and there is an increased chance of success since the pressed on wheel bearings and the hub are all new. Once the items were assembled we knew the replacing bearings and hub at the same time was the right choice. We salvaged the best looking wheel studs from the old hub just in case we need in the future. We took the old hubs to a local metal recycling facility. Looking forward to many trouble free miles ahead.

Good replacement bearings for PT Cruiser.
The SET49 bearing set was just the ticket to replace the growling and howling wheel bearings in my wife's 2007 PT Cruiser. PT Cruisers have a reputation of going through bearings relatively quickly; the car is derived from the Neon and uses many of the driveline and suspension components yet weighs an easy 1000-1500lbs more than the Neon. The bearings lead a heavily loaded life in a front-drive car. Chrysler bean-counting engineering strikes again and the bearings were not upgraded/upsized to deal with the additional weight. So they wear out in 50-60K miles instead of the 100-150K one expects a modern set of wheel bearings to last. The bearings were of high quality for the pricepoint and pressed in without problems; they're accurately machined. It's been about 500 miles and there are no problems yet and the front remains quiet. I expect these bearings to last at least the 65,000 miles that the original bearings lasted.

Buy 2 | Smooth rolling
You need to buy 2 of these if you are going to do both sides of your car. The word "Set" in the name refers to the bearing's design and DOES NOT indicate how many bearings come with your order.Seems to have turned back the clock on our old garaged 2006 PT Cruiser with 104k miles.I started to change these bearings myself, but when I had things half way apart, I noticed that a control arm bushing was tearing and would require disassembly of all of the same parts on that side of the car. To proceed with stabilizer bar and control arm removal I needed specialty tools I didn't have. In the process of finding those tools I ran into a shade tree mechanic that offered to do the job for me at a price I couldn't pass up. He did a great job and the Cruiser is rolling smoothly once more.

Great bearing
Pressed into the steering knuckle of my 2005 dodge neon, so far so smooth(2months). I read several places on the internet that timken bearings are much better than those I’d have gotten at O’Reilly or auto zone not to mention it was cheaper! Short ship time, installed myself and saved a couple hundred bucks.

Same as Ford Racing!
These are the equivalent bearings as the Ford Racing IRS bearing that you would use on a 99-04 Mustang Cobra rear knuckle. The price is significantly better for these than the Ford version and is literally the same Timken PN. Took about 4 tons to press in but almost 9 tons to press the old ones out!

Timken Set 49
The first thing that I would say is, The image and description shown is not that of the actual item. It is not a bearing set but a unitized sealed bearing. I only purchased them because I was familiar with the model numbers. That said, I was happy with the purchase. These bearings were to replace specialty OEM bearings which were listed at an unreal price. Amazon saved me a considerable amount of money. The shipping was fast and professionally packaged.

The description is a bit deceiving. It is not a bearing set it is a bearing. I needed two and thought a set would be two bearings. It was delivered quickly and appears to be good quality. It is made in China.
