Moving from a 12 year old Tripp Lite tool to this was a shock
If you are not familiar with Amazon Vine, it is basically Amazon trading free* products for honest reviews. You see a lot of Vine reviews that are cookie cutter and based on templates. I aim to make my reviews honest and non-cookie cutter (other than this intro and disclaimer). * These items are not actually free as Vine members pay income tax on the items they receive. Therefore, I will never order something from Vine unless I actually intend to use it. I think this is important for readers to understand because it means I will never order an item just to provide a fake five star review to a company. If I review something as good, it means I actually enjoyed using it or it fills its intended purpose correctly. Items that don't meet my expectations will be reviewed accordingly. Why I ordered this item: I do cable installs frequently for work, and the old Tripp-Lite tool I have is getting pretty rickety. That tool was over $600 when I bought it. I wanted to see if a cheaper model could hang. Likes: * Wowsers, this is the biggest upgrade I can imagine. * The old unit generated reports and this one does not, but other than that this new one is superior in every way. * It has new features that I have wanted (PoE testing) and the visual output is almost infinitely better than the basic display on my old unit. * I mostly use cat6 tests and toning, and this device does those very well. I toned three cables in our walls out and they worked like a champ. I also tested a cat5e cable that was working but only at 100Mbps and found out that it had a short. * I will definitely use the PoE testing component as we hit PoE cameras all the time that have power issues, but I didn't have any PoE devices at home for me to test. * USB-C charging on both parts! The old one used 9v batteries. No likes: * The reports would be nice I guess, but I feel that the visual output on this more than makes up for a lack of exportable reports. I did not deduct a star for this because other than the first time job I used my old tester on, no client has ever wanted reports. Would I pay full price for this product: Yes, 100%. Final thoughts: If I had known I could get one of these for $130 I would have ditched my old unit years ago. This thing is crazy and will be an extremely valuable addition to my toolkit.

Ehh, it's okay but broke in 3 months with light use.
So, it wasn't a bad tool. One thing I found very annoying is that if you have auto DHCP IP obtained, it would pull, say, 192.168.20.15 with a gateway of 192.168.1.1. However, if you manually try to set up the same configuration, it won't let you. It will make you use 192.168.1.15, and you can't do a network search this way. If you ping it, it will let you change the IP address in the ping screen, lmfao. So yeah, that was a waste for most of the time. When I was testing a network, it wouldn't work with DHCP because it couldn't reach the domain controller or something similar, so I NEED manual input without workarounds. Yeah, I use ping for things like this, and luckily I can do that with the workaround, but it would be nice to scan a network, lol. Anyway, now to the big thing: the wand side of the unit has stopped working. If I plug it in and turn it on, it makes odd sounds, beeps, and flashes the light, lol. But if I play with the buttons, it will go to its normal use modes. However, it will NOT charge, so now I don't have the second part of this combo, which has most of the cable testing functions, and it doesn't work without it, from what I could tell. Lol, so beware. It's okay, but it's not reliable, or something I would buy again. I'm going to donate the main part that works. Move On Buy a better unit. This was a pretty mid-priced unit; it kind of sucks that it broke.

A Pretty good Network Cable tester
At first, things were a little confusing as the menu system on the cable tester does not perfectly align with the instructions in the manual. Note that for the NF-859GT (what I am reviewing) is the last tester in the manual on page 28. Things I tested with their corresponding results: 1. "user alignment" test AKAs "cont" on the menu. This will test that your cable is built properly. You can test it locally (on either device) or test it between devices for runs in your home/business. This function seem to work fine. 2. "Scan" test AKA "wire detection" is the test used to find the other end of a cable. You plug the network cable into the "SCAN" port on the main device and then you use the probe device to find the other end of the cable. It has 2 modes (digital and analog). Both worked as expected. 3. "Flash" test aka "port blinking" in the manual. This test will cause the port in your switch to blink. It worked just fine on my switch (see picture) 4. "Length" aka "network line length test" in the manual. This is supposed to test the cable length. I tried it on a 15 foot CAT6 cable I have and it measured 17.5'. So not accurate at least in my testing. 5. POE test - this checks the voltage coming out of a POE switch. It worked fine (see attached picture) 6. "QC Test" aka crimping test in the manual - This tests your crimps. It works fine. 7. OPM - I do not have optical so unable to test 8. VFL - I do not have optical so unable to test There are a few quirks as you can see but overall, I think it does what it says and worth consideration if you are in the market for this type of tester.

If you work on network, this will save you so much time!
In my office, I used this to trace down a wiring fault and to check connections on bundles of CAT5e and CAT6. The cable length feature is helpful to find precisely where a break was hiding, which saved me from spending more money on more expensive gear that is specialized to do this. I also tried the POE tester, which removed a lot of the usual trial and error by confirming which ports push power. I like that it has functionality for RJ45 and RJ11, so I can check all the lines without swapping out devices! This device is of good quality and saves me a lot of time. Plenty of features and easy to use.

Huge Upgrade for Network Troubleshooting
This network cable tester is a massive upgrade, delivering excellent performance with multi function capabilities that flawlessly handle CAT6 tests and cable toning, even helping me diagnose a short on a 100 Mbps CAT5e cable. The craftsmanship is great feels durable and has a clear visual output, and convenient USB C charging. I was quickly able to tone three cables successfully and find a short, but my one criticism is that the unit does not include a feature to generate exportable reports, which some clients might be useful but its not really a drawback for me.

Accurate and easy to use.
Great tool for testing CAT5 or Ethernet cable in general. I am a network technician and installing network equipment is part of the job. This tool is very helpful for testing cable and making sure that it works before setting up the equipment. It just makes the job a lot easier than having to plug in and test each cable to make sure it is working.

Useful product but needs inprovement.
Toner works great, light meter needs to be set so it doesn't change settings.

My honest professional review as an IT tech in the work environment
I rate it a 3 for a few reasons. 1 - the innovation and price for a value network tester, 2- a few functions work but not that accurate, the accessories included at least they tried. Honestly, I thought this would be an awesome tool for my networking needs but it short fall my expectations. Sadly so I had to return it. The tone generator part works but doesn’t work when the end of the cable is on a switch like Cisco or unifi. The cable length tester isn’t that accurate as it is close but missed a few feet or more. The manual covers a few models and it is not in details on how to use the function dedicated to my tester just highlights of the usage, there is no ip ping, the cable quality check works good, cannot detect hub or switch location via cable just to the end of the connected switch or router, even to that is a guessing game at times, love the display and the rechargeable battery but for professional use no. Would be nice to have it touch screen and an on board guide. Some more improvements needed to be done to the device and wish if they have a pc interface and firmware update as well. Would love to keep it if these functions work well. I only used it twice and had to let it go. We have a six month project to network a whole complex and this tool would be awesome if it works accurately. The fibre optic part is a hit and miss especially on long runs, wish they would improve on that and speed check plus to detect internet and coupler or where the cable is broken like how many feet away etc. that is my take on it. Hope the next gen model improves on this and I may consider it in the future.

Does not work
Toner does not work, and seller wont return my messages about a refund. This is the 2nd device I bought from Noyafa. The first one was a cheaper network tester. Found out it wouldn’t work half the time so I threw it away. Bought this one to see if its better as its a new product of theirs - nope, still garbage. Spend the money and buy a proper device from a reputable company even if it costs 3-4x times more.
