2TB BarraCuda Internal Hard Drive | SATA 6 Gb/s (ST2000DMZ08)

A typically good quality, affordable mechanical HDD from Seagate. Since one of my old small internal HDDs decided to wave the white flag after 14 years of use & 3 different PC builds (I can't complain), and currently being 'of limited means' I needed a reliable, well-priced replacement -preferably significantly larger & faster. This 2Tb Seagate model fit the bill perfectly; a standard, well-understood and engineered drive that is bought and used by many people for good reason. The spec. on these BarraCuda drives is good -not spectacular / 'high-end', but it isn't supposed to be: they're designed to provide people with a decent-capacity, solidly specified mechanical HDD at an affordable price, and have built a formidable reputation as exactly that. Supplied in the usual box and anti-static wrapping, the BarraCuda gives a good impression, nicely built, with a natty green label. Installation is exactly as you would hope / expect and as plug & play as any internal drive can be: fix into appropriate bay, plug in leads, and, as relevant, get your OS to assign a drive letter, format & off you go. In use, I've found it quiet, with good access time and no sign thus far of any reliability issues -exactly as you would hope. Since my ancient desktop (almost a decade old now) has another very elderly HDD installed which I use purely for storage, I'll be buying another of these BarraCudas in the next couple of months as a preemptive measure and capacity / speed upgrade. Does exactly what it's supposed to do / says on the tin: a good HDD at a decent price. Recommended.

I recently bought the Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD on Amazon, and I’m very impressed. The installation was quick and easy, and it worked perfectly right out of the box. With 7200 RPM and 64MB cache, it delivers fast performance for everyday tasks, gaming, and file storage. My system feels more responsive, and I now have plenty of space for all my files. It’s also quiet and runs cool. Great value for the price—highly recommended for anyone needing a reliable internal hard drive!

Good value for money, easy install, and just great

Review 1. This 3.5” Seagate Barracuda 2TB is a basic HDD without ‘hybrid’ SSD enhancement, thus not fast enough for gamers or a modern PC. It also uses SMR technology, another reason why it should not be a system drive on a PC. The speed ratings were about right when I checked it on my PC. Installation is as standard. Capacity is the usual amount. Power consumption seems to be as usual. The drive arrived well packaged in its antistatic bag deeply cushioned inside a complex folded cardboard box, all very green, no polystyrene anywhere. However, my application was in an old Humax HDR-Fox T2 because its HDD was approaching full, and was therefore moved across to an external caddy for occasional access. This new 2TB drive is working consistently in the Humax. The video files are all large, consequently fragmentation is less of a problem than with a PC, and the Humax data rate is sufficiently slow an SSD is not necessary. . . Review 2. I also bought a 2.5" drive, so Az forces me to review it in the same section! The Seagate ST1000LMZ48 2.5" 1TB BarraCuda is a modern simple high speed hard-disk drive with a 128MB cache. It is not as fast as a Hybrid or an SSD. I bought it for use with a rotation-set of colour coded weekly back-up caddies stored off-site so absolute speed is low on my list and SMR is not a problem with wipe all and rewrite.. Drive Management in W7P or W10P formats the new drive in less than half a minute, giving an NTFS formatted working capacity (non-bootable and without O/S) of 1,000,068,635,870,144 bytes (931GB). After a thorough search taking some time the standard block check failed to find any bad blocks or sectors. Big file transfers are limited by the caddie’s USB3 interface but still approach the maximum speed of the drive at about 100MBytes/s write and 60Mbytes/s read, depending on how much directory access and fragmentation there is, even so I am very happy with this drive. My samples were made on 1st August 2021 in Thailand, bought 4th December 2021 in UK. Manufacturer’s packaging is a miracle of cardboard origami and the only plastic is the sealed anti-static bag the drive travelled in.

Excellent value for the price. From the moment I started using it, I noticed how quiet it is — genuinely almost silent, which makes a big difference during long sessions. Performance-wise, it’s been consistently smooth on my PC with zero issues. No lag, no random problems, just reliable day-to-day use. Everything runs exactly as it should, and it hasn’t let me down once. What stands out most is the durability. I’m writing this after over two years of regular use, and it’s still going strong without any drop in performance. For something in this price range, that level of reliability is impressive. Definitely a solid purchase.

I bought this 2TB drive to put all the junk I didn't want slowing down my Windows 240GB SATA SSD, or my 1TB NVME Gen 3 M.2 SSD. I'm no technical whizz but when I benchmark it, it says "cached drive detected", or something to that effect, and refuses to benchmark the result. Regardless of that it's a FAST HDD. I can feel the difference in the loading times from my trusty old Western Digital I've had since 2013. If you have a gaming PC with a couple of SSD's and don't want to clog them up with the stuff you need but don't use that often and loading times aren't a big thing, this is perfect. Plonk all your bloatware on it, stick your anti-virus on it, plus any games which don't require a speedy SSD. You can never have too much storage space, but you can certainly have too little. I've heard that the Barracuda's don't last as long as some other brands like WD, but I'll be the judge of that. I'll edit this if a find any issues with it, but so far so great!

Arrived very quickly only a few hours from order to delivery. I wanted the 2tb but would have taken longer to arrive and I needed the drive asap to transfer the data from a drive in critical failure. The drive itself is performing perfectly read and write speeds are what you’d expect from a more premium drive. Yes it’s on the pricey side but IMO it’s worth spending a little more on this drive if you intend to keep it.

It does its job very well its quiet. To date it hasn't faulted and it sits straight into the cradle slotting comfortably into the housing bay of the tower. Very good value for the money.

Punti da migliorare: Velocità rispetto agli SSD: Essendo un HDD tradizionale, non è veloce quanto un SSD per il sistema operativo o i programmi più esigenti. Tuttavia, è eccellente per l'archiviazione di massa. Conclusione: Il Seagate Barracuda 2TB è un'ottima scelta per chi cerca un HDD affidabile e capiente a un prezzo competitivo. Consigliato per chi necessita di uno storage aggiuntivo senza spendere troppo.
