Persona 5 Royal 2 is a stupid name for a game
After 200+ hours I have finally completed my marathon of Persona 5 Royal and Strikers 😵💫 Goodbye Joker and the Phantom Thieves… it’s been helluva ride! All the Persona 5 world building, lore and character relationships are established in Royal, and while **P5 Strikers** is a standalone game and you *could* play this without having played Royal, *should* you? Up to you, but you probably wouldn’t enjoy it as much, let alone understand it. A few comparison points: it still has a great soundtrack, and while the dialogue is quite bloated I really enjoyed the humorous meta-references in the dialogue. Ryuji was hilarious in Royal, but Futaba and the new character Sophie shine here in this packed-tight story. Also, the shift from turn-based to real-time combat was jarring in the first few hours as it felt like button mashing, but as I understood the characters’ differences and started unlocking their master skills (MVP is Ryuji) it became as nuanced as any ARPG depending on the difficulty setting. My play time for Strikers was 45 hours, and I did about half of the available side quests which generally involved back tracking so I prioritised the ones that gave me an upgraded weapon or armour. As you get to experience more of Japan outside Tokyo this time around, the visuals and performance in Strikers don’t have the polish of Royal and it did crash once, but it’s still a sequel worthy of your time or to be added to your backlogs. (A final comment: my copy of the game came with a code for some bonus content including a soundtrack, digital art book and behind-the-scenes music making-of video that didn’t work citing error code 2813-0055.)

One of my new Favourites!
Great game. As a lover of the Phantom Thieves, I was glad I bought this game and could have time with this cast of characters plus new ones. I like the mix of the P5 strategy with the Musou gameplay. Love the story love the gameplay and love it is somewhat of a sequel. I know some complain it's not tied with Persona 5 Royal but I love the game for what it is a chance to see my favorite characters in a new story.
