Review: Outstanding - Best monitors we've ever owned. - This is really an excellent product, and at such an affordable price! In fact, these are the best baby monitors we've ever owned. We are on our third child, and our other set of monitors (an AngelCare set that did both audio and monitored baby's movement in the crib) were either lost or thrown away. So we bought these when our third child was born, and these are the things that are good: Pros: 1. This monitor uses DECT 6.0. This is newer tech, and is the same technology as that in the best cordless phones. We got our first DECT 6.0 cordless phone last year, and I was very excited to find it in monitors now. Here are the reasons DECT 6.0 is great: A) Security built in, so only you hear your baby. B) Multiple communication streams from DECT 6.0 devices can be accommodated, so your monitors don't interfere with other DECT 6.0 devices like cordless phones. I've had no interoperability issues with my cordless phone and my monitors. C) DECT 6.0 has been around a while in Europe and other places, but it took a long time to get approval for dedicated radio frequency spectrum here in the US. Now that the FCC has approved it, though, it is the best tech for this sort of application. Why? Other monitors use frequencies like 900 Mhz or 2.4 GHz, which are crowded with other devices like wifi, microwaves, cordless phones and other monitors. DECT 6.0 has been given the 1.9 Ghz spectrum, and nothing else but DECT 6.0 devices are allowed to use it. Interference from 802.11 b/g/n wifi, or microwave ovens? Impossible, because those use the 2.4 Ghz frequency. Interference from 802.11 a/n/ac wifi? Impossible again, because those technologies use the 5 Ghz spectrum. Old cordless phone technology? Impossible, because they typically use the 900 Mhz or 2.4 Ghz frequencies. Anyone that tells you that wifi or microwaves can interfere with these is thinking about older monitors that used to use 2.4 Ghz... it can't happen here. Because they have their own 1.9 Ghz frequency range, these will not interfere with anything, including other DECT 6.0 devices, since DECT 6.0 allows for multiple communication streams by design. 2. Another thing that is great about these is the crystal clear audio. It is extremely easy to make out what is going on in the other room. 3. Noise cancelling is another great feature here that has made its way over from cordless phones and cell phones. Noise cancelling microphones only activate if they detect noise above a certain threshold... otherwise they are quiet. Bathroom fans, air conditioner hums, etc, do not get transmitted by these. They only activate and transmit baby crying or fussing, otherwise they transmit pure silence. Note: There may be times baby moves or makes small noises and they don't get transmitted because they aren't above the threshold. In my experience of using this for several weeks, I've never had a situation where baby actually started getting agitated and it didn't get picked up. If baby moves his arm or sighs, you might not hear it, but do you really want to be woken up by that anyway? Personally, I only want to be woken up if he actually needs me, and I've found I always hear his louder awakening noises/movements/fussings, usually several minutes before he works his way up to actually issuing a cry. 4. Lack of static - these have no static whatsoever (typical for DECT 6.0). They are dead silent unless baby is crying. No static, no background noise, nothing. You can sleep with these next to you, and they will not make the slightest sound to keep you awake or wake you up, unless baby is crying or stirring, which is easily heard. 5. These have nice indicator lights, so if you mute them you can still see visually if baby is crying. However, I really don't ever mute them because unless baby is getting pretty agitated, they don't transmit any noise at all. 6. I haven't tested using batteries, but each parent unit takes two standard AAA batteries, so they are easy to obtain and replace. 7. Value - A base unit and AC adapter, plus two parent units with AC adapters, built in belt clips and a very good range (they've worked everywhere in our 1480 sq ft house, and I'm sure they'd work outside too if we took them out there). Cons - None that I can think of. Having used multiple different models/brands of monitors for our other kids at our house and grandma's house, I can say these are not only the best performing, but the most affordable monitors I've ever used. If you are looking for a basic audio monitor with no extra features like two way voice, movement monitor, or video camera, then these are the best. Review: so we didn't want anything fancy like we had with the Angelcare (breathing monitor - This was to replace an AngelCare monitor which was 6 years old and had finally worn out (but served us well for 6 years!). It is for my youngest, who is three, so we didn't want anything fancy like we had with the Angelcare (breathing monitor, temperature monitor, etc), just a basic sound monitor. Our house is large, so we still need something to hear him calling us both when we are downstairs and when we are sleeping in our room. This was super easy to set up, very reasonably priced, and works perfectly with no interference with anything in the house. The sound is great when he calls, and silent when he doesn't. I thought about the silver version of this, but it had features we just didn't need, so I am happy that I went with the basic version. I would recommend it highly for someone looking for a basic monitor at a great price.

Hits the quality/price spot.
Yeah, well, for second (third time parents) it's perfect. If it's your first child: You won't find anything with night/thermal vision, motion sensors, laser triggers, voice 2 way, built in FM radio, over WiFi LTE... In short: it works, simple, took some falls already (and works) reception is decent and allows us to know if the kids are alive - good quality and good price! (Yes, we once spent $249 with the first one, waste of money)

One of the plug in transformers I received buzzes pretty loudly when in use
These are decent baby monitor units, work very well when plugged in. I have three minor complaints however, and I think I've seen them here before but here's my take: 1. One of the plug in transformers I received buzzes pretty loudly when in use. It's a high frequency squeal, which my ears are attuned to somehow (think flyback transformer on a CRT). Since I use the transformer when I sleep, my ears end up picking up this noise and it irritates me. 2. The devices use batteries pretty quickly. I am not sure how long an alkaline would last, but I'd guess 2 nights at most if you weren't using the transformer. This leads me on to #3: 3. For devices like this that eat batteries, I love using rechargables. I haven't timed how long it takes for the little low battery light to come on, but it comes on fairly quick with rechargables as they have a lower initial operating voltage than alkalines. I'd say it comes on within 3 hours of use. Then, once the battery voltages drop too low, the units emit an audible beep every so often. Today, once the unit emitted the beep - I removed the batteries and did a charge. My battery charger indicates about a 500mah charge into a 900mah battery, with a starting voltage of 1.25 on both. This tells me that the unit is really tweaked to give battery warnings on alkaline only, and becomes an annoyance at best on ni-mh lsd rechargables (I've used both Imedeon and Tenergy in the units, both to the same conclusion.) I would really like for the ability to turn off the low battery warning and / or recalibrate it, but I understand that these are low cost units and will just live with these deficiencies. For the money, these devices really can't be beat. For what they need to do, they do it extremely well in my opinion. I always hear my baby's cries (or see the LED lights flash given his volume) and they've not let me down at all. Just be aware that if you do use the battery option, you'll be charging or buying batteries left and right if you want to be mobile or not use the transformers included with the parent unit.

Great for outdoor bird songs, too!
I actually purchased this set so I could bring into our home the sounds of birds singing outside, and it works beautifully! I secured the microphone outside and then placed the receivers inside the house, one on each end of the house. One receiver is approximately 40' from the microphone, and even though the wireless signal has to travel through our brick exterior and two other interior walls, the sound comes through clearly. Each of the three units comes with a plug-in adapter so we haven't needed batteries. We now have outdoor bird songs 24/7 throughout the inside of our home even when all the doors and windows are closed to keep out winter cold or summer heat. I purchased my first set several months ago and it has worked so well that I just purchased a second set. If it monitors baby sounds as well as it does outdoor bird songs, you should be very happy with it!

Cost effective, good quality baby monitor. Good option for the basic need.
I find this to be a cost effective, good quality option for a basic baby monitor. It does what I want it to do, which is enable me to hear what's going on in my baby's room when I'm not there. It does not have a bunch of bells and whistles, video, breathing monitoring, or whatever else they make monitors do these days. I love that there are two parent units and keep one permanently plugged in in the kitchen and the other in my office. But if needed they're portable too. There are lights on the unit that visually indicate sound and how loud it is. I work from home and have a sitter for my daughter during the day, but I still keep the monitor on in my office so I can "keep an ear on" what's happening during the day. When I'm on the phone I can turn down the volume so the sound of her crying or them playing doesn't come through the call, but the unit will still light up if she's making noise. I have no trouble hearing her at night on my own, but these monitors have come in essentially handy on the occasions that Grandma and Grandpa were on baby duty and needed to hear if she woke at night. We've had no interference problems of any kind. I also like that there's a kind of buffer on what's transmitted so I'm not necessarily hearing every pin drop in the room, just sounds that are loud enough to be people-related.

Great product for those seeking a reasonably priced baby monitor
We really enjoy this product. For what we paid for, it works really well. There isn't any static noise and it picks up the baby's cry perfectly. I like that I have the option to have it plugged in all day but I can also put batteries in them in case I need to go outside. This product is way better than our original baby monitor. With this monitor I can't even tell I have it on until the baby starts to fuss or cry.

Failed miserably!
I have never written a poor review about a product, but I am so disappointed with this purchase. These monitors do not work properly. After about a month I noticed that they seemed to suddenly cut out. All the lights looked normal and the power indicator would remain on but the sound would suddenly go dead. If my baby started to cry it would usually seem to cut back in however. I thought I could maybe just deal with it, but not after last night! I fed my 2 mo at 10:30 and went to bed. He often fusses around 2:00 and then again at around 4 and I fee him around then. I sleep with a loud fan in the room which makes it impossible to hear from the nursery without the monitor. I woke up at 6:20 and thought "it's a miracle, he slept all night!" I got out of bed and went into the hallway only to hear my poor boy screaming. The parent unit in my room was totally silent. The power was on on the baby unit and my parent unit but no sound was coming out. I have no idea how long he had been crying and feel so bad and guilty! I I have only had these monitors for a little over 2 months. I need monitors I can count on! This is not acceptable. You trust you'll be able to her your little one...I mean that is the whole point! These failed miserably. I am returning immediately for a refund and am going to go with a different brand. I had a graco one that worked well with my daughter. More pricy but I am definitely going to spend more money if it means I can dependably hear if my baby is screaming!
