Err, packaging?
Looks aren't everything...thank goodness!I bought this for my wife (she asked for one or was actually planning on buying one, it wasn't an elaborate scheme to get her to make more cakes...or was it ;) ).The first thing that I thought when I opened the day's package was "Did they forget to pack this??" As it comes just like the picture shows. It looks like a huge cheese cutter (might try as such and report back bags). As far as the way it works, it works pretty good on cupcakes and a small cake so far but I do worry about the product endurance (I.E. Breaking). If this dulls or breaks I will be sure to update my rating. Since it was inexpensive and does what it says/what we need it to, I'm rating it a 4. Try it if you need it and someone let me know if it works on a bit block of cheese :)

Good last resort option. Otherwise... Maybe try something a little nicer. Or a lot nicer.
I mean, to some degree this is on me; you get what you pay for. I wanted a cheap cake leveler that would arrive quickly, and I got one. But yeah, it’s kind of impressively flimsy, the wire is really hard to adjust, and then it’s not serrated at all so you have to be really careful not to tear your cake. It got the job done relatively well when I needed it, but I’m definitely going to order a better one now.

Works better than expected
I made a full cake recipe in a square spring-form pan and used the cake slicer to cut the cake into thirds. It was quick and easy to use. There are notches on the sides to help make sure the wire is at the same level on both sides. I cut the bottom third first, then raised the wire and made the second cut. It made a clean cut through the cake. Since each slice was thin, I used two long spatulas to move the slices.Pros:Tall enough to fit over a tall cake.Cuts through the cake easily. (I used a little bit of a sawing motion as I sliced)Slices are uniformCons:Can't think of any, but I have only used it onceSummary:I recommend this product. I wish I had bought one a long time ago. I will probably never serve simple two-layer cakes again. I plan on making extra icing and slicing all my cakes in the future.

Yay!! I feel like a pro!!!
This is so much better than trying to get cakes even with the knives I have at home (that weren't made for this).Works like a charm. Makes it much easier to level the cake so they come out looking great (because I'm a terrible cook and my cakes always have strange shapes - the wilton site gives tips on the causes for abnormal cake shapes btw).Way less crumbs, way less mess to clean up, which is great because after all the fun baking and decorating I'm not really in the mood for major clean up.Just a note - wipe off crumbs and put an "crumb coat" on your cake, toss in fridge for 15 minutes and then apply another layer to keep crumbs out of your final layer so that it looks much more presentable. No worries, the crumb coat acts as a moisture barrier so your cake won't dry out in fridge.

OK
I like to make cakes for birthdays of family and friends, so while I am not a professional, I have made many a cake over the years. I have also take classes for decorating and cake preparation. This little gizmo works well overall. It does work best with a frozen cake, as that minimizes tearing. I took off a star because while it's easy to adjust, the wire can slip easily despite the notches designed to hold it in place.EDIT: I took off two stars. Depending on the kind of cake you are cutting, it doesn't always work so well. I had a hard time with a dense pound cake as well as a light, fluffy white cake. The frame on mine also bent very easily and I have not been able to bend it back to the right angle.

I finally ordered one of these and am so glad I did
I finally ordered one of these and am so glad I did! I was tired of "eyeballing" my cuts and ending up with lopsided cakes. This is super easy to use and works great. It is the first one I have owned, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I do have to mention that sometimes I have to "start" the cut using a serrated knife, but once it is started, the wire does a great job. I do wait until the cake is completely cool before I cut. I have had no problems with it mashing or tearing the inside of my cakes.

Good Price - Nice quality
I needed a cake slicer for Easter and I didn't want to run out and get one. I quickly found this one and found that it was priced well.I have used this slicer for one cake so far and it worked. I made a 3 layer round cake and it worked well for all 3 layers. It was packaged well, it shipped faster than expected, and it appears to be good quality. The wire (used to cut the cake) seems secure and there are little plastic stoppers at the bottom that help hold it in place if you need it to. There are nice notches and they all seem level.I would recommend this slicer to anyone.
