I developed a variant of asthma which leads to coughing excessively when the air quality is poor. The IQAir has been a great addition to my home, but it bothered me that I had no scientifically objective way to determine how effective it was or how often I needed to use it. I purchased the Dylos DC1100 Pro to confirm that my IQAir was really working, and to get a better understanding of what the air quality in my house was. The first week I had it I found my baseline particle count in the home was about 160,000 particles per cubic foot. The outside air was running at 260,000. In the bedroom where I keep my IQAir, my count was 30,000. So I knew right away I was getting some benefit from it. I was also able to monitor what fan speed I needed to keep my IQAir running at to maintain a reasonable particle count. Running at speed 3 was working sufficiently. A week later we had a terrible bout of smog by the house. The outside air particle load shot up to over 10 million! I couldn't see more than a few feet in front of my house. I noticed that my IQAir was having a hard time keeping up with the smog and my bedroom was rising to over 80,000. So I knew I had to run the unit at full speed to get the count down. So I've been monitoring the counts closely and using the numbers to determine how often and at what speed I need to run the IQAir at for optimal efficiency. I've also been able to confirm that holding the Dylos up to the IQAir shows a count of 0, so I know I'm getting very clean air out of the machine. I've read that the filters on the IQAir last much longer than when the unit suggests a replacement. So rather than replacing when the light comes on, I'm going to rely on the Dylos to tell me whether I still have clean air coming out of the unit. I've read that some people have original HEPA filters in their IQAirs more than 8 years and still have zero particles blowing out of the unit. That is really amazing! I was curious to see how accurate the unit was, and today I had a chance to test it out. I had an IQAir rep come out to my house to evaluate my home for a whole house IQAir system, and he brought his $3,000 particle scanner with him. We went around the house measuring each room and comparing it to the Dylos. Both units were showing virtually identical numbers. So I know this unit is really accurate. I can't imagine going without the Dylos now that I have it. I check it every day to see how the air quality is, and I know when the numbers go up I have to do some things to adjust for it. For those of you who are suffering from allergies or asthma and find an air purifier to be of benefit, the Dylos is an invaluable tool to help you manage your air purification efforts. This is truly an amazing device that I highly recommend.

Excellent, well respected particle meter
This is unit was an innovative, groundbreaking design that spurred many others. After a number of years, it remains the perfect unit for me and is used and trusted by many knowledgeable or professional folks needing to monitor air particles. It It is fast and simple to use, and provides accurate readings. I don't need other features. The Dylos DC1100 pro has become a very important instrument in my household. Living in the San Francisco Bay area, we experienced terrible air pollution from wildfires. This spurred my first purchased of the Dylos C1100. It was essential to understand how control particle counts in my house with room air purifiers, etc. Along the way, measurements from the Dylos taught us a great deal about air conditions inside and out. The meter is simple to use, consistent, and provides a trustworthy measure of air quality. The finer 0.5 micron measurements in the pro are worth the extra money, IMO. I modified my unit to be portable by attaching a battery pack by stick on velcro, and buying a 5 V to 9 V cable instead of purchasing the portable version. This is described on youtube, and works great. Over several years, my wife evolved to using the Dylos so much, I needed to buy a second unit when I recently took up woodworking so that I could effectively control sawdust particles in the shop. The Dylos is used by many woodworkers. People often don't appreciate that it is the particles you can't see that do a lot of lung damage. Using Dylos units opened our eyes to the actual quality of our air, day to day. It also makes the cost of the unit seem like a bargain! Essential equipment in my family!

Don't bother with the "fancy" Chinese monitors
I'll get the negatives out of the way first, and why I knocked off a star. The user interface is very dated and seriously underwhelming. It's also disappointing that a device of this quality does not include an inexpensive WiFi module for detailed data analysis on a computer. Even their models with PC connectivity use a serial port, which is ridiculous in 2019. Finally, Dylos' battery model is insanely overpriced. Battery operation should be included on all their devices. I was able to rig up a 9v battery adapter for less than $10.00. With the bad stuff out of the way, this device is the real deal. Forget about those $100-$200 Chinese-made units with fancy displays. They are horrible. I've used a few of them alongside the Dylos, and they are toys by comparison. In one test I put the Dylos up against a calibrated IGERESS "Newest Improved Air Quality Detector". I smacked a dirty dog bed next to both of them, and the Dylos instantly recognized the 2.5 micron particles (shot up to 120+), while the Chinese unit moved from 1 to 3. While the IGERESS has a fancy interface and is much less expensive than the Dylos, I returned the IGERESS and am keeping the Dylos. If Dylos updated their UI and added some basic 2019 features like WiFi and battery operation, they'd tap into a much larger market. Their product is fundamentally and technically sound, it just needs a major facelift.
