Goldring 1006 Cartridge

I recently upgraded to this cartridge from a Goldring E3 which is about £100.00 cheaper than the 1006.. Prior to that I had been using a Rega Elys 2 cartridge which came already fitted to my Rega Planar 3 (2016) turntable. The Elys 2 is a very good cartridge for the money but I prefer the sound of both these Goldring carts to the Elys2 and the fact that the Goldrings have styli which can easily be replaced whereas you have to replace the whole cartridge when the stylus needs replacing on an Elys 2. ( A very fiddly job when one slip could easily ruin the stylus or cantilever.) The E3 in my opinion represents outstanding value with amazingingly clear midrange and detail at the top of the treble spectrum. It is not lacking in bass response either. The E3 is easier to fit than the 1006 as it has a captive nut design. However, the 1006 in my opinion beats the E3 as it provides more depth and focus to the sound stage and a warmer sound overall. Great cartridge. I am also pleased with the free alignment protractor that came with it.

Excellent needle . Shame is so expensive
