Wonderful game
It is hard to oversell this game to anyone who likes games like chess or checkers. It is easy to learn but difficult to master. It requires a different kind of thought and planning since you can be attacked from 6 directions instead of 4.The quality of the board and pieces are also delightful. They are hefty and feel good in the hand. The box is an odd shape, so that is a minor flaw. It is a hexagon. The other version of this game seems to be a normal rectangular box at first glance, but the reviews will let you know that the front has an odd angle that means you can't stack things on it! Definitely buy the hexagon box.

Easy to learn, challenging to play.
My husband and I love this game - it's kinda like Chinese checkers on steroids! The rules aren't complicated, and there are illustrations to explain the moves. You move your marbles in such a way as to pushing your opponent's marbles off the board. The first to push off six marbles wins. The board is nicely designed and has troughs to catch the marbles that are pushed off, so you're not chasing runaway pieces. It's fun and challenging at the same time.

Phew! Not damaged during shipping
The game came on time and as described. I was worried about the marbles being chipped or broken during shipping as some other reviewers have said but mine arrived in perfect condition. The game itself is fun and easy to pick up but hard to master, I like it better than chess.

Great game, bought like 3 of those for my friends.
A very simple easy to learn board game. I only own 2 board games and this is one of them.

A kind of chess for dummies
Although this board game is based on simple rules and all pieces are treated equally (i.e. they all move in the same way), it does resemble chess and go somehow strategically. Maybe it is more than just the colours (the game has a black and a white set of pieces) and the capturing of pieces (by pushing them off the board). It challenges the player into risking a few own pieces to capture your adversary's.Not like in chess or go, movements early in the game can be undone by reversing the pieces back to the last position.Abalone is easy to learn, and mastering it is rather quick. Then it's just lots of fun to play, games are fast and losing helps develop new strategies. It is recommendable for kids who still find chess too slow or intellectually too demanding. The fact that all pieces are the same and move equally helps them playing and enjoying the games from the very beginning.

Worth it.
A few chipped marbles, as I read that is par for the course. My children are in the spectrum of autism, and they love it. “It’s like a big fidget”. A game we could and have easily played every day since purchase.

Great game - 20 seconds to explain, forever to master
Tripped over this game in the early 90's and was hooked. Such a simple concept and very easy to explain but surprisingly complex to play. Don't get me wrong - this is not chess or go... but there is a far more complex layer beneath the simple rules.
