TMI Warning
After undergoing a gastric type of surgery I was left with frequent and ghastly gas. I mean wretched, no warning, make your eyes water flatulence. After months of running away from farts that make grown men cry, hoping that the little fellas wouldn't follow me, I heard about Devrom which is called, of all things, an Internal Deodorant. Turns out what sounds like something one might see on a 3 AM informercial is actually evidence-based science. Who knew? Its sole active ingredient is Bismuth Subgallate 200 mg per chewable lightly banana-flavored tablet (not to be confused with the Bismuth Subsalicylate contained in Pepto Bismol). The recommended dosage is 1 to 2 tabs up to 4 times per day. No more than 8 per day. I started with the minimum dosage of 1 tablet to see what, if any effect, it might have, and voila...I am no longer killing small animals in the next block. People have commented that the nearby landfill no longer smells so awful. Seriously, one tablet actually made a significant difference. If later in the day the fumes become noxious again, I will chew another one, and for me, that seems to be all that is necessary to convert toxic fumes into ordinary, everyday flatulence. It's a bit pricey, but given the alternative, and since it takes so little to make a difference, I will be begging the Devrom company to take my dollars and give me small bottles of this magic potion in exchange.

This is not a good product.
This all happened after only taking the medicine twice (I took two of the chewable tablets each time).I have recently had a colostomy reversed, and it's caused me to begin putting out some horrible smells with my farts and poop. Even the smallest fart requires windows be opened and air fresheners to be used to make it even somewhat manageable. So when I saw this product I had some hope of it helping me out. They REALLY need to list possible side effects in some kind of 'potential reactions' pamphlet. For others it's been just blackened stool and constipation. For me...I had taken some the night before, right after a meal, around 9pm. The next morning, I woke around 9:30am... and was slightly sick. I threw up a little and that seemed to solve the problem, but it was definitely the Devrom that caused it; the result was yellow and bitter, and the only thing I had eaten that would have caused it was this medicine. I figured it was no problem though; just a case of my body getting used to the medicine. I then went across the street to do my laundry... and messed my pants.A faint pressure turned into a sudden liquid gush of... you guessed it... yellowish fluid down my pants legs and into my shoes. As I was in the middle of switching my clothes into the dryer I was forced to hobble around like this until I could walk back home, change my clothes and shower. The only thing that could have caused this was my taking this Devrom. On the upside, it didn't smell *half* as bad as it usually did. /sarcasmWorse, since I didn't think anything was seriously wrong I took a second dose of the Devrom before eating a late breakfast. Sure enough, after throwing up, then having severe diarrhea from the first two pills, the second two caused extreme constipation and dark stool. Just like all the other low rating people here. Again, I guess it stuck to the letter of it's promise, as there was very little smell... but come on.The absence of warnings about potential negative reactions to taking this medicine is bordering on negligent from the company and needs to be addressed IMMEDIATELY to prevent problems like mine from cropping up for other people looking for some relief from internal problems.

Expensive, but worth it!
I had a bariatric surgery called Duodenal Switch about 2 years ago. While this is a miraculous surgery, it comes with a pretty stinky side effect.... a rather awful, lingering stinch to gas and stool. It can be managed fairly well with eating less carbs and sugar, but it can still be pretty bad. Everyone says "all gas and poop stinks", but this is at a whole different level! Take my word for it! Anyway, I decided to give this a try to see if it might help a little. I wasn't sure how many to take, but after reading some other reviews and doing my own research, I decided on 2 tablets 3 times a day with main meals. Here is what I noticed after about 3 weeks of use.1.) The taste of the chewables is fine, and I'm pretty sensitive to how chewables taste. I can't really describe the taste, but I don't have any trouble with these. I do have to work at getting the chewed up pieces out of my back teeth, but it can be minimized by trying to chew mainly with the front teeth.2.) These will turn your stools a dark greenish color.3.) After a couple of days of steadily taking it, I really did notice a MUCH reduced odor!! It still was a little stinky, but NOTHING like before. The odors didn't linger out into the hallway or rest of the house. I tested it out at my sister's house, and my niece, nephew, and sister all agreed that it was not as bad as before. I'm happy with that!4.) It can be expensive if you have to take 6-9 a day, so since I live alone, I don't take it when I know I'm just going to be home all weekend. I also increase my dose to 3 tablets 3 times a day when I know I'm going to be visiting relatives for a day or two. The thing to remember is that you need to take it for a day or 2 before it really starts working.I highly recommend this! Just wish it wasn't so darn expensive.
