Does it combine the two CF cards into one disk or does each card appear as a separate disk?

You can see both cards as two separate devices, second cf is slave. Only the master cf can be bootable.

The ide female connector on mac has one pin blocked so only room to plug in 43 pins. can i cut out the extra pin on the compact flash?

Dear Customer, Yes, you can cut the pin. We recommend bending the pin out of the way first to test that it's the right pin, so you don't end up damaging this board.

What is the maximum size CF card you can use in this?

This adapter only works with Type I CF cards. There is no CF storage capacity restriction (in Mb or Gb). Sandisk (http://www.sandisk.com/) advertises a 256Gb model; they don't say if it's Type I or Type II. Other vendors may make larger. Amazon shows an 8Gb .

There no bent pins. These pins are longest then other and it is like an visual illusion.
