Pace picks up considerably
I liked this chapter in the 39 Clues saga more than the previous one. It has all the features that make this series so enjoyable - likeable protagonists, breakneck pacing, interesting educational material tightly woven into the plot, global settings, and mystery and intrigue. This outing had all that and some more. After an absence of several books we get the return of the Janus branch representative, Jonah Wizard. Here he is portrayed with a certain amount of depth. Previously he was a very talented but completely self absorbed, uncaring jerk but now we get a glimpse of some compassion and self doubt. Besides Jonah himself we get some background on his father and for the first time his mother Cora, the head of the Janus branch, makes an appearance in these books. For the first time in the series Amy and Dan become separated and have to cope without the other's support. As might be expected, this results in some welcome growth especially in Dan.The ongoing mystery of Nellie and whom she is working for gets some more play here. Finally, the setting of this book, China, is used in masterful fashion by author Korman. Korman seems to have a talent for researching his locales and working them into his books effectively. His Everest climax was very effective and exciting.Highly recommended. If you liked the previous books you'll like this one.

Great Addition to this series
I am throughly enjoying the 39 Clues book series. While some books have been easier than others for the characters to figure out the clues this is indeed one of the more challenging of the seires for Dan and Amy. Even thought it has only been a few months of time in the story to get to this point I am enjoying how the characters are developing and I eagerly await the next book.My wife is a children's librarian and it was she who got me turned on to this series by having use listen to the first two or 3 on CD while traveling. I have enjoyed the CD versions but kept up with the series by puchasing the book when it comes out and then donating it to the library once I have completed it.Being an adult reader of Youth fiction is an interesting spot and I have found it to be quite enjoyable. My wife also enjoys it as she then uses my enjoyment as a reference for here readers of the series.

It's gonna be way more than 39 books to get 39 clues.
The 39 clues. Wait, i'm on book 8 and i've covered what number clue in this book? This is simply the way comic books work. You tell a whole story arc and with each published book, you have all ready enticed the reader to want the next book in the series. I don't think we've uncovered 8 clues by this 8th book. In fact, i have the first 7 and i know by purchase history that you have to buy a whole different series just to get to clue number 12, the name of that series is completely different and its still part of the same series. I'm about to give up because this series is taking a LOOOOONG TIME!Its also got multiple authors helping write it. It's a good thing that most of them seem to have the same writing style or it could be disaster. The only other disaster i've seen in this series. That they flashback to things that for my taste, bore me. It's so far ahead of the storyline, that you'll have to go back to the book just to remember clearly what happened in a previous book, to coincide with a current book. That means you can't sell your old books to help buy the new book. You may need it to reference in the future of the storyline.

It's used?
The item I received is exactly what I ordered, however, I was not aware when I ordered it that the copy I received would be used. I came back to the listing to see if it was mentioned anywhere but still cannot see any note of a used book. If I was wanting just the book maybe it wouldn't be a big deal but the book is all I received. The cards are gone and the code answer, as well as answers for the next two books, were written inside the book taking away from the fun. Maybe in the future just make sure the buyer KNOWS they are buying a used book and erase any writing inside. Btw Jude might want to change his Pottermore password..

Excitement and adventure for chapter readers.
My son cannot put thee down. They are exciting and spooky without being gross or scary. James Bond meets Inspector Gadget with a dash of Ramona Quimby. The sibling interaction is nice and believable. The "bad" adults aren't too bad. There is a little tiny bit of actual history involved. I would recommend this book and the series. I have been reading them along with my son. They are not Pulitzer prize, but they are entertaining.

Best book ever
I've been reading the 39 clues books for a while now this was by far the best. I didn't like that Amy and Dan got separated in China but that is my only complaint. This book was thrilling, when they flew to the top of mount Everest and Ian almost fell but Amy saved him. Shocking! Sorry I probably spoiled the book. :)

Another Solid Piece of the Mystery
Such a great series of books! It is amazing how the various authors can stay true to the story and deliver 8 excellent books in a row. We are looking forward to the two final books of the series. This series works for both the avid reader and the reluctant reader from age 7+. The characters in the story make it attractive to both girls and boys. This mystery/adventure goes way beyond the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew- more exciting, more current, and more educational.

Interesting Books.com
It is very interesting and I don't want to be a spoiler but it sounds so cool when they climb mount Everest although I hate it when they save Ian's life. And what's up with the Imagine if they knew the truth. -F

Exciting reading
This whole set of books is fabulous. All three of my children (boys 8, 10 and 12) have been mesmerised by them and now I am reading them on recommendation from my children. Exciting, easy to follow, well written and has a bit of history thrown in too. Highly recommend.

Excellent Series, a must to read them all
We absolutely LOVE this whole series. Some authors are certainly better writers then others. Some you are literally on the edge of your seat throughout the whole book and it takes no time at all to get through it because we can't put it down. Others are a bit sleepy in comparison, but it balances itself out. LOL I read it out loud to my 3 kids every night LOL We bought #8 as an ebook because we were desperate! We read all that we had found in hardcover and had found the remaining books used however couldn't pick them up for a week! Kids were devastated so we bought the ebook to get us through until we picked up the remaining hardcover books!
