Psycho Break!
If you loved Resident Evil 4 you should also love The Evil Within. RE4 for PS2 was the first game that I ever played on the PS3 (release 60GB PS3s were backwards compatible). I had heard that RE4 was *that good* and worth playing before any of the PS3 games that were out at the time of the console's launch. And, man, were they ever right. RE4 blew me away, and it still stands as one of my top 5 favorite games. Many elements of RE4 are as fresh in my head today as they were way back in 2007 when I finally beat it after logging 30 hours into the campaign. The Evil Within was created by the same guy that did RE4, so I entered the game with great expectations after getting it on Amazon for just 19 bucks on Black Friday 2014. Were my expectations met? Mostly. It was definitely worth the 19 bucks!!! But these days I hold Dead Space up as the pinnacle example of Horror/Survival. Dead Space did everything correct from gameplay to story to mechanics to graphics to scares...everything was top notch. The Evil Within was great fun, but it disappointed in a few places. So first let me reiterate before I speak to my whiny complaints: The Evil Within was GREAT FUN. It's scary and tense with 15 very challenging chapters. It took me over 20 hours to beat. You will die (a lot) in Evil Within (on normal or higher difficulty). You will not beat certain enemies before a trial and error learning period (which can sometimes take more than just several attempts). There are some puzzles but it's not puzzle heavy. The challenges come by way of making it to the various chapter checkpoints via levels that are made insanely difficult at times by enemies driven by smart and accurate AI. I have no problem with smart and accurate AI, but when you add in that almost ALL enemies are walking bullet-sponges and ammo is scarce you are in for a challenge that requires more than just blasting your way through the game. And indeed there should be more than just blasting my way through a game, but in Evil Within when you're lucky enough to collect a decent amount of ammo in order to get through a chapter, it'd be nice if the ammo worked. 4 bullets to take down a human-haunted? Folks...aim for the head in this game and sometimes that doesn't even give you a 1-shot kill. Two grenades to take out the human-haunted with the machine gun? Ridiculous. Remember, I said accurate AI earlier and by that I meant that the enemies with guns in this game don't miss if you let them get a shot off. The creatures in Evil Within range from creepy to scary to disturbing. And almost all are viciously ruthless in their pursuit of you if they see you, so a lot of the Evil Within strategy will be to stay stealthy. The story and the dialogue are a bit whacky, but that's made up for by a game that has you in tense levels for the most part with a limited amount of cutscenes. I'm very late to the game with this review so I'll get this wrapped up by AGAIN saying that The Evil Within was great fun. I am excited to do a Survivor Difficulty New Game+ second playthrough. One thing's for sure about the second playthrough though: I will NOT be increasing the difficulty to Nightmare (unlocked after beating the game on Survivor difficulty). You can't raise the difficulty and use New Game+ anyway. Overall Rating: 4 ½ Stars

Modern 3-person Horror-Survival at its finest. (PS3 REVIEW)
Now before I begin I want to make somethink clear. This game was made by the studio which is ran by the same guy who did RE 1-4, that means it is going to feel alot like RE 1-4, and I'm getting really tired of people saying it's trying to copy and paste The Last Of Us. The story is some what bland and hard to follow, until you start progressing through the game and fing side text that explains alot of the stuff going on, along with back story for characters. In my personal believe, as the game says that all the characters and other victums have a linked to all their minds, this is the reason as to why the story is every where. There isn't much character development, and the voice acting is a little off for the game but it hasn't effected my enjoyment of the game. With the scares, though falling through at points, are well done. The majority of scares are in the games hud, with a mixture of uncomfertably close camra angles, complete darkness, and unsettling audio. The combat is well done, giving the player a varried set of tatics to use while fighting large or small groups of enemies. The sealth is somewhat laughable at times, but it didn't take away from the intensity of the situation, even making me feel it was a god send they didn't notice me. You can use some of the enviorment around you to your advantage with bolts that have different effects on enemies (fire, ice, poison, ect) along with using bottles to destract enemies to get past them or to stealth kill them. The AI for enemies is somewhat weird because they will focus in on you from a long distance, and will continue to look for you until you are entirely out of the area. The comabt is handicapped enough to the point of where the game felt it was almost impossible at points. For example, I was fighting a boss and I had little supplies. No healing items, no ammo in stock, or parts to make cross bow bolts, with only a double-barrle shotgun fully loaded off to the side and 5 pistol rounds. It took 7 tries until I beat the boss and continue to the next chapter. It feels impossible, but it's not, so perpare to grow a pair. It also helps to have prior experience with the Dark Souls games, learning to conserve resources and when to be agressive or passive. The game shows off some impressive machnics, with completely invisable enemies in the first couple of chapters and solving pussles by examining the entire area for small details, while it could focus on them a little bit more, there is no doubt they put a lot of work into this game and it shows. As for the frame rate, however, I haven't run into any bugs and I'm playing on a PS3, the only one I have ran into was when I was going up a ladder and had my lattern out but it has only happened once. I would recommend this game to both people who loved Resident Evil 4, and to people looking for a challange. An even though I have a list of improvements for the game, it gave me exactly what I wanted from a horror game in the late 2013 era.

Buy it best gaming experience i’ve had a long time.
One of the greatest games ever made often overlooked. It has the existential dread of silent Hill and the panic and combat of resident evil considering who made the game that makes perfect sense. This game is a love letter to survival horror highly recommend.

Interesting Mind Fuck
I eagerly awaited ,Shinji Mikami's new IP the Evil Within. The latest master piece from the master mind behind the classic Resident evil series. I think The Evil Within is what this console generation has been lacking a true return of the survival horror genre. An let me tail you it does not disappoint. It's not trying to be main stream. What I mean is it's no cake walk let me of sure you. The easiest difficulty setting is very challenging witch is not a bad thing mind you. To me this is the true sequel to resident evil 4 or better yet what resident evil 4 should have been. Now there no quick time events and no ,Ashly either. There some action aspect to this game but they are few and far in between.. The Evil within is , Shinji's world the way he wanted it for himself to dictate as he sees fit. Mind you this game is not perfect an it dose have some flaws here and there. It's still better than any thing Crapcom had produce with the current resident evil games. In witch I mean it's completely incoherent generic action game. Just like the incoherent mess that is the resident evil movie staring the mary sue aka Alice. The game's story was very interesting an it took me a while to grasp the over all story even doe it was vague. The game is mainly trail & error an you may die many times over. Every things great except I feel the graphics could have been better for ps3. Well at least the game play and story was thrilling for the most part. I would totally recommend it to any survival horror fan. It has plenty of up grades , hidden weapon to discover , it has game + , and lots of replay value for a 20hr. video game ...

Hope Shinji Mikami gets another installment
After all the bad reviews I took a chance and finally bought the game for $19.99 and I love it! The only bad thing about it is 50% black bars on the top and bottom but after 30 minutes and I have a 55” TV it didn’t really bother me at all just turned the lights off in the dark and good to go!. The loading time takes 36 seconds a pop after getting killed so it wasn’t that bad most other games take longer I love to be sneaky by killing the zombies and disarm the bombs but I’m a little slow 70% got it 30% dead.. Now my god Chapter 10 that 6 legged creature is super hard (angry mode) like a snake with a rat = fast death over 100+ times I don't ever want to fight that b*tch again!, If you have problems go to this video guide http://www.gosunoob.com/evil-within/complete-chapter-walkthrough/ NOTE: don’t waste your bullets on Ruvik just run no way to kill him The control is pretty smooth just like RE4, 5 but have big problems on the shortcut weapon inventory I keep popping the wrong button so many times and screws me up, the graphic’s are nice but not the best some parts are like a classic movie type and some screen tearing from time to time but its not that bad some reviewers just get annoyed for little things UPDATE: I Changed the control setting to C that was a lot better !! UPDATE: Upgrade the Harpoon Bolt to 5 that will get FIRE! better to kill her (chapter 10) UPDATE: Chapter 15 Complete - Casual - Total Time: 35:32:06 Total Number of Death: 197 (Chapter 10, 15) NOW the good news!! Just got the leak on Amazon France, The Evil Within the GOTY edition coming this September include the DLC The Assignment, The Consequence, The Executioner Bethesda hasn’t confirmed an actual release date for North America yet , but keep an eye out for it. Also heard that they will get an option for full screen and letterbox I will definitely buy it again !! http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-General/The-Evil-Within-Game-of-the-Year-Edition-on-the-way/td-p/45274387 This is a GREAT game its like Resident Evil 4, Silent Hill Downpour, The Last of us all in one and it is very fun game to play and so glad I bought it, but u might as well rent it first coz chapter 10 is very hard from the boss fight… I really hope Shinji Mikami gets another installment [The Evil Within 2] soon!! BOTH LANGUAGE & VOICE *English *French *Spanish

Fun, but frustrating
There were parts of this game where using stealth and conserving ammo actually worked, and those parts were fun. There were too many parts, though, where I found myself running around in circles being chased by something that could kill me instantly, and that I couldn't hide from or even turn around and see for the most part. And then getting killed and repeating those same 10 minutes of gameplay over and over and over again. I enjoyed the game enough to get to the last chapter, but then lost interest in the monotonous challenge and just watched the ending on youtube. The story was kind of all over the place and didn't make sense, but in that regard it was indeed a return to early survival horror, which I appreciated.

Resident Evil needs to take Notes!!
Before i go into the game i would like to add a short back story on why i love it so much. I have always been a Resident Evil fan (video games) ever since Resident evil directors cut came out and beyond. I also enjoyed many other horror survival RPG's, in fact they are my fav class of video game. Ok enough about Me!!! Here it is, what makes "The Evil Within" Such a bad ass title for any system in the RPG survival horror class ? 1) The game's environment, it is a lot like Resident Evil but much more in the realm of insanity, but this is good insanity. The first time i play it i couldn't stop, because it jumped out at me with such realistic environments. 2) The Horror (this should have been 1), If you enjoy scary movies and very scary games, then this is your baby right here, they don't rely on jump scares to cause terror... trust me on that. The first time i played it i was like "well seems kinda scary but where's this so called great horror and terror at ?" Well after awhile later i changed my tune to "Omg, get me outta here i'm gonna die from FEAR!!!!" as some giant juggernaut of a beast wielding an Axe came at me. Oh and Axes, Traps, Monsters, tricks are not the only thing you should be worried about, they have the legendary chainsaw wielding beast in this game too!!!! But as you play reality also plays on your mind, you will meet things you could never imagine ever to exist. 3) Customize !!!!! Yes this is soooo important to me as a gamer of horror RPGs i love to have control over my player then just walking around with something with zero choices. In The Evil Within you will have the chance(s) to customize your player in all sorts of amazing ways, which to me just made a great game even better. Well i like to keep these short so here is my last words on the game. If you have not had a chance to watch this game or play it i would suggest you give it a try, however if you did just run out and buy it anyways i don't think it would matter since you will love it. I give this game a 9.2 out of 10 Well hope this helped, if it did why not thumbs it up for me because it did take time to write it for Amazon, and i don't get paid for writing these things.

It's Evil Within and throughout
The Evil Within is definitely one of my favorite horror survival games all time next to alien isolation... first off let me say there is a little bit of a learning curve in terms of the overall game mechanics but this is something that is not necessarily A Bad Thing, when you first start out you realize that you can essentially kill anything by sneaking up behind it as you progress you realize sometimes killing silently doesn't always work.. the way it is helpful with maintaining ammo, sometimes just running and gunning is your best bet, some of the creatures are extremely quick so there are situations where this strategy doesn't work. But in many situations you don't want to be in a situation where you are going to get destroyed quickly... and sometimes sneaking past enemies can be a slow and draining process... I will say the combat system is extremely well done but there is a little bit of a learning curve, especially when you try to adjust the camera. The majority of the weapons are awesome except for one but the game constantly challenges you as you access new areas. It's definitely a fun game and well worth the money if you can get a copy of this for $15 or less, and the DLC is kind of worth it especially with the assignment, the Executioner DLC is a little short but I understand what they were trying to do they were trying to give you a different perspective and they succeeded in that. Overall I gave the game 4 1/2 out of 5 stars

Veramente bello e spaventoso
Gioco molto bello, horror, grafica buona anche se da ps3, ti sa intrattenere veramente tanto , per i miei gusti un po' corto, solo 14 ore di gioco, ma una volta finito ne è valsa veramente la pena.

Few tips before you start playing this super awesome horror fantasy.
Very scary and brutal game. And don't forget to look for an explanation on youtube once you have completed the game. It's going to be a revelation. And trust me when i say this you won't understand half the plot even if you complete the game (I mean if you havenot watched the explanation on youtube). The game is difficult so follow following instructions when you start playing- 1. start playing on casual mode. You don't have many bullets and without any updgrades you will have to empty a whole magazine to kill one common zombie. 2. Stay hidden and don't go gun blazing. 3. Avoid unnecessary encounters, like with the woman in long hairs, just keep running. 4. Always collect green gels. It's very important for upgrading and trust me you can't finish the game if you ignore upgrades. 5. When upgrading, go for extra damage from weapons first and then more storage for bullets (stock). Upgrading life meter is not of much help since most of the enemies who can kill you will kill you in just one go no matter your life meter. 6. And finally the Dark minions (or zombies) are limited at every stage so if you feel you need bullets or green gel just take your time and finish them all. From this i mean they won't keep coming no matter how many you kill which happens in many games. Apart from that can't think of much that you won't be able to figure out on your own once you die 20-30 times.. lol. Focus on the story and keep track of it. It's very intriguing. Good luck playing the game. And i hope you finish it, have a little patience you will experience something not available on many games.

Bienvenido Shinji Mikami
