How generous are these, I am 38-40,usually buy 38, any thoughts?

I purchased the larges size as I am a 40 waist. They are comfy, well worth the money.

In the sizing and colour selection, what does it mean by black -2.5inch and black-6.5inch?

It refers to the leg length. 2.5" is quite short while 6.5" are amongst the longest ive seen. If you have larger thighs the longer 6.5" boxers are ideal to stop rubbing.

Can these be tumble dried?

Label says yes on a low heat. They do dry fast anyway.
