This item did not work for my audio interfaces or cameras, on either Mac or Windows, and on multiple machines. I'm unable to return them, because it's a few days past the return window. These are not bad products, and I don't want people to think I'm dissatisfied or angry at the seller. The computers actually recognized that something was there, but audio interfaces are super sensitive things that require drivers. FireWire and USB are not supposed to be compatible at all, so the fact that the seller offers a no-risk opportunity to a product that does have the capacity to have certain FireWire devices work on USB is really good and hopefully this leads to more stuff not becoming ewaste. Just don't be like me and forget about returning them

This fried my computer: I have an old broken Macintosh with a fire wire 400 cable. I wanted to get data off of that Mac using that cable and this adapter cable. I had hoped that just using this adapter cable would provide USB compatibility. However, when I plugged in the USB end to my laptop, I saw a brief message about USB at the top of the screen, and then everything went black. I am guessing that the USB, or the power, is now destroyed in my computer. It will no longer power on.

Great product, work with any FireWire 400/800 that requires different types of conector in different ends to work. FireWire is not only a more stable solution, it is faster than USB 2.0.

It has the feature I needed, but software for my computer became a problem. My Sony video cam is 25 years old and no recent software, so far.

Fits perfect

I tried several different options to get my old external HD to see my new computer...almost spent a couple of hundred dollars to find out what was on the HD. This option fixed the need.

When connected to my camcorder, I inserted the USB end into my computer. The computer did not recognize the device and I was unable to transfer files. I ended up purchasing a cable the connected RCA connections to the USB drive which included software to transfer the files.
