Basically a waxed boonie hat
Basically a wax boonie hat made with heavy cotton. I couldn't find a decent picture anywhere online so I hope these ***pics help. I usually wear a 7 1/2. Tilley in general recommends to size up one size * because a sun hat should have a brim that fits comfortably over the face. This 7 5/8 is a little snug but I expect it to stretch out a little due to it being made from cotton. The Upside to having the hat a little snug is the form keeps its shape better. If it fit looser I'd be stuck with a floppy hat. I turn this into a fedora by bending the front brim down. It stays for the most part.Expensive but I haven't seen one this nice in black. If you look around several australian vendors sell really nice ones in brown...but not in black.

Think about getting a size up if you want a flat brim dome shape.
A good quality hat. The canvas cotton was waxy when it came and very shapable if that's what you're looking for. But I'm returning my 7 1/2 because I have to distort the shape of the hat in order to fit my head front to back. My head actually measures 23 1/4 inches around, so 7 1/2 should have been roomy. The hat looks more like the photo I see on this review page than the main photo. The hat is not firmly shaped like in the main photo; it is more crumpled - especially because it was packaged with no care (which lowered my review to 3 stars). I crumpled up some brown paper and stuffed it into the hat to see if I could make it have a better shape which mostly worked, but when I put it on I had to pull it out front to back to fit my head, and then the hat was not the dome-shape hat I was looking for. It ended up looking like my brown canvas Stetson at that point - although this hat's material and waxy "shape-ability" is better than the Stetson's material. Still, I'm not sure if I'll reorder the next size up because I feel like I'll always be struggling to get this hat to keep its shape. I bought it because I liked the dome-shaped sturdy look, but it isn't really sturdy at all.

Another Tilley Home Run
Typical Tilley quality. Looks great. Fits perfectly. I got the brown one and couldn’t be more pleased.
