A great add-on to the tool kit
This rig is definitely on another level as a former sports photographer I will tell you it hits every bells and whistles especially for a phone then again don’t forget the parts and components that you purchase you can always utilize it in other builds if you decide to go with a DSLR in the future stability port for NVME which I’m already populating with a Samsung one terabyte discrete me hidden in the handle what do you have a Samsung an iPhone or some other phone that has good photo video capabilities this is definitely a plus

Incredible rig that's dense with features. However, beware of shortcomings.
I’ve been using the SmallRig x Brandon Li mobile video rig for a while now, and I’ve got some thoughts. Long story short, I really, really like it, but it’s not perfect. I actually started with the Smallrig cheaper, universal cage. I figured I could just build it out myself. But after buying a bunch of extra mounts, external USB hubs, SSD enclosures, and building a custom focus wheel with an Arduino and PSP thumbstick, I realized I was basically just trying to build the exact rig SmallRig and Brandon Li already made. I forgot it existed so I kept working at my own rig, but it surfaced again and, realizing my mistake, I decided to try it out. The best thing about this rig, hands down, is the handle with the built-in SSD slot. It's such a smart idea and saves so much space. Not having to figure out where to clamp my SSD is a game-changer. The included VND filter is also fantastic and the mounting system is super clever. It can slide around to fit just about any phone, and it even comes with little custom-fit masks for popular phones to block out light leaks. Even if your phone isn't one of them like my Pixel 9 Pro, it'll still work just fine without the mask. Now, for the stuff that isn't so great. While the main cage feels solid, some of the accessories feel noticably cheap. Weather its purely for cost cutting or weight management, it's still noticable. The little shutter and zoom remote feels very flimsy and plasticky, though I personally don't use it anyway because I now have my own wheel. The SSD enclosure is a similar story. It works, but it just doesn't feel premium. Speaking of the SSD enclosure, there’s a bit of a design quirk. It comes with a thermal pad that's supposed to press against the metal handle to pull heat away from the drive. The problem is, it doesn't really make good contact with the handle, so I'm not sure it's doing much. I haven't had my SSD overheat on me that I've noticed, but it's something to keep in mind, especially if you’re shooting long takes in a very high bitrate codec. The SSD-in-the-handle design also creates a problem when you’re not shooting handheld. I have an old GlideCam stabilizer, and trying to mount this rig on it can be a pain. You need the handle attached for the SSD, but the handle gets in the way of balancing everything properly. You could resort to using a separate external SSD enclosure, they aren't that expensive, but it kind of defeats the purpose of the convenience of the handle. One last item; the built-in USB hub. It’s a nice thought, but it’s pretty basic. You get one high-speed USB-C port for your SSD, but the other ports are slower. It didn't quite work for my setup where I needed to plug in a monitor and other stuff, so I ended up using a different external hub anyway which again is not that expensive so not really an issue. Overall, this is a great rig. It packs a ton of smart features into a setup that's a decent price and doesn't weigh a ton. It’s made shooting on my phone so much more streamlined, and you forget it's just a phone at the end of the day. With the VND filter installed it also looks a lot more like a standard camera rig, and could easily pass off as one of those in a profecdional scenario. Just be aware of its quirks like the cheap-feeling remote, the potential workflow issues with the handle, the barely underspeced USB hub, before you buy. If those things aren't deal-breakers for you, I think you'll be as happy with it as I am. I don't expect those things to be deal breaker though, because by its nature this rig is very extensible and can adapt to different users and scenarios very well. At the end of the day, it's impossible to make a perfect product, and this product definitely isn't perfect, but name something that's better than this at this price for this style of shooting. I'll wait. Hope you make the right decision! Do not skimp on watching reviews or reading up on it either they can be invaluable resources.

Looks nice but don't let that fool you
I really wanted this to work for me because I love Smallrig products. They are usually pretty solid and hold up pretty well overtime. However, the quality with this is lacking. There are parts of it that are very cheaply made, and the zoom funtion did not work at all with two different phones. The shutter button, and zoom part of the setup seems like something that you would buy at the dollar store. The cage itself is just too big and difficult to get my phone to fit, and even when I finally did with an older phone, it still felt like it was going to fall out of the enclosure. Not good when the whole point is to protect your phone from wear and tear. I gave it three stars because it does look nice, and I can tell they put a lot of thought into it, even though there are a few major flaws. I loved that one of the grips works also as an m.2 ssd slot, that you can add your own drive into, for storage upgrade. However, I came to discover that it is also a little out dated with previous generation port speed. So if I would be keeping this I'd also have to purchase a different enclosure to get the most out of a fairly new drive. I can see how this may actually work for some people, with a different phone maybe, that fits more secure into it. A bigger size phone would probably be better than my iphone 16 pro. Overall I'd say Its worth trying if your willing to sacrifice some of the functionality that they advertise, and risk it not fitting every single phone.

The Zoom Control for iOS is a bogus hack
Overall this is an excellent rig. The build quality is great. Everything goes together very easily. The instructions are easy to follow. However, the PRIMARY reason I sprung for this rig was because of the promise of telephoto zoom controls. Being someone who came from he world of traditional videography, I was stoked to see manual telephoto controls because zooming using the screen sucks. To get the zoom control to work in iOS you have to enable several accessibility features, lock the phone in portrait orientation. Once that song and dance is over, you're are provided the WORST telephoto control you have ever had the displeasure of using. It has only one speed (super slow) and is fickle at best because it's not an actual zoom control it's just a series of accessibility kludges. The two stars is mainly for how poorly documented the kludge to get zoom to "working" is and once it is working it is f***ing terrible. Especially seeing that feature is played up in it's listing. If zoom is the main draw for you, pass on this and just get something cheaper or put that money towards an actual video camera.
