Feels like a £50 mouse
After reading many reviews on these R.A.T mice and putting it off for a long long time I decided to give it a go and purchase the base model, and I wasn't disappointed. To start with the mouse is a very solid build, all of the buttons as well as the whole mouse feel sturdy and the buttons click very sharply and don't travel very long before they respond, this was a downside of my last mouse, the sharkoon fireglider, another brilliant value mouse, but it soon began to show with constant use. This mouse feels like it'll last much longer, it also looks the part for any gamer to say the least, I love the mechanical look of this mouse and it suits my PC well. Its very comfortable to hold as its nice and wide and the thumb rest is a nice added bonus.I've read many reviews of all of these mice from the R.A.T 3 to 9. All of them have great reviews but they all also have a few that explain severe unreliability, and any of the mice breaking after a very short period of use. I wouldn't disregard these reviews as there must surely be some quality control issues with madcatz, however mine works and works very well. I'm glad I bought the base model for £35 because for the way this mouse feels and works, I feel I should've paid almost double that. The maximum DPI setting for this mouse is 3500, which is 100 less than my old mouse. However this has proven to be a good thing I think as I found my last mouse to be a little twitchy when moving it around during gameplay, especially on games such as the Arkham series. This problem is now totally gone thanks to this mouse, when I want the camera to stay still, it does. The main downside to this mouse is the software used to program the buttons, it just seems over complicated, although I haven't really had any reason to use it yet, I'm happy with all of the default settings. Another downside for many people is there is no option to add weights, this doesn't bother me but many serious gamers might not like this at all, and want to spend much higher amounts on a mouse.Should you buy one? I would at least give this base model a try as you won't be breaking the bank. I chanced it, and found this mouse to be brilliant.

A great mouse for any gamer, with incredible high accuracy. I recommend it!
I personally use the RAT 7, but this was for my daughter who didn't need all the fancy stuff so I got her this RAT 3.I have to say it feels a lot lighter than my RAT 7 as it doesn't come with any weights and not really customisable at all... does come with 2 programmable buttons if you want to go to that extreme.HOWEVER - for the price, features and comfortability you can't beat it!I've paid more for worse "gaming" mouses in the past, so I'm impressed at the quality and high DPI (3500) of this entry level mouse from the RAT series. The DPI is switchable so you can use a more manageable DPI setting if you prefer (in case your not used to having such accuracy!).As well as my daughter, I happen to have 2 gaming buddies that also have this RAT 3 mouse and they swear by it too!

Astonishingly comfortable and attractive, hardware is 5-stars
This mouse, despite looking like it will fold out into a tiny transformer and try to enslave all humanity, is astonishingly comfortable to hold and use.I have average adult-male sized hands, and have in the past found a lot of mice a little undersized and uncomfortable. This mouse is still fairly compact, but it has quite a low profile and is very wide, meaning that your hand rests very comfortably on the mouse itself. The various 'plates' support your palm well, and the thumb rest is a nice touch. As mentioned in Cpt. Tangerine's review, if you have small hands, the width of the mouse may be a bit of a strain, but for those with medium to large hands, it's very comfortable! The buttons feel very sturdy and, unlike a number of mice I have had in the past, does not rattle at all in its socket. It depresses very nicely and the overall feel of the materials is great too.The mouse is very stylish in its unique way. It is a very peculiar look, and I can't imagine it appeals to everyone, but if you like the look of it in the photos, it looks just as brilliant first-hand, and not at all tacky. The high-quality materials used to surface the top give it a fairly premium looking build quality, but you can see from the underside that it is just a plastic frame - nothing special. You can commend them here, however, for applying good materials where you see them, and saving money where you don't. Not sure how this will affect the lifespan of the mouse, but as mentioned, the parts seem well made and well fitted, so I expect the mouse to be pretty damn durable and last a fair while. The tracking of the mouse seems great, and I never get any skips or ghost movements, unlike most over mouses I have used, and the R.A.T.3 also glides very well even when used on my glossy white desk, so performance here seems great! The DPI button is a rocked button that allows you to go up and down, which is nice since on my last mouse it was simply a button and you had to cycle through to get to a desired DPI. The DPI button is easy to press on the fly, though also tucked out the way so you won't accidentally press it, again a problem with the mouse I was replacing. It may bother some, but the R.A.T.3 doesn't come with weights. It may bother some people, but it doesn't bother me. The mouse is also quite light. One other aspects that may bother some. If you change modes on the mouse a lot, the mode button is located to the left of the left-click and is not the easiest thing to press on the fly. I usually find that, because of the angle, I have to let go of the mouse and pinch the button. Since I play guitar, I imagine I should find this a bit easier than a lot of people, so if I find the angle difficult to press on the fly, I can't imagine many other people will do either. Since I rarely change modes, this doesn't usually bother me.The forward and backwards buttons are located on the left of the mouse, above the thumb rest. The forward button is easy to press, but the back button is a little far back, which makes it a little awkward to press, though by no means difficult or uncomfortable. The other problem is the software, which is the main reason I have given the mouse 4-stars.The software itself is good, and the button mapping is great, especially since you can not only program buttons, but commands too! If you so wished, you could program a button to, for example, write your email address when it is pressed, or perform any number of strings of commands, even with time-delays.But... the software and drivers, all 120MB of them, have to be downloaded from the website, which is a little annoying, though you can assume that this saves on packaging size and production cost in not having to provide a CD with every sold unit. This is slightly redeemed by the fact that you can download the driver separately, which is only 4MB or so, and just not use the software (which essentially just allows you to reprogram the buttons and alter the DPI values of the mouse a bit more)The other niggle with the software is that, despite the fact that I have enabled the driver and software to load at launch, I still have to manually load my custom button mapping profile every time I switch on my computer. It only takes 5 seconds to do, open the software, click load, select file and click activate, but it's a nuisance to do it every time I want to use my custom layouts.WRAP-UPThese two niggles place 5-star worthy hardware at 4-stars. I would still recommend this as a great gaming mouse, that's wide and flat for a highly comfortable fit for moderate to large hands, and has great performance, though may not be great for those with smaller hands and is slightly let down by the software, and one of the (admittedly lesser used) buttons being slightly awkward to press.

Amazing
Anyone looking for a fairly cheap gaming mouse, go for this one, no doubt about it this is the best for its money!! 1) it's so comfy to play long sessions with, I played for 4 hours and my hand was still as comfortable as it was when I first started... 2) the build quality is outstanding! it looks so sleek and modern, but when you hold it, it feels tough!! 3) control is amazing, playing call of duty is precise and quick using this mouse!!If you are on a budget around £40 BUY THIS MOUSE!! I can't see you finding anything better for £40

Ratón perfecto para lo que sea
Perfecto. Simple y llanamente.

This is perfect for beginners and intermediate level gamers
I received this exact one but red a few years ago. It recently stopped working due to me breaking it on accident so I knew I had to order a new one. The product came exactly in two days like to said it would just in time for me to start gaming again. I plugged it in and updating my settings. I've been using it close to two weeks and haven't had a single issue with it yet. The product is great! I have been testing this mouse on all my games and it seems to still work just as great as my old one. I would definitely recommend this gaming mouse for a beginner/intermediate gamer who is look for a great quality gaming mouse at a great price. I've had a bunch of different mice all different brands and this is one only one I have been happy with. Highly recommend getting!
