Highly Recommend
Beautiful toy. Wonderfully engineered.However. the reason I wanted to write a recommendation was because I was extremely impressed with the quality and thoughtfulness of the instructions, which made it a joy to build with my 9 year old son. I was a little daunted when I saw all the pieces. but the building guide was superb. The drawings were very accurate and easy to follow.I should add we have only just built this so I cannot comment on how the toy will perform over time.

Lovely present idea.
Got for my son’s 7th birthday. We built it together instruction were very clear. Unfortunately he would not walk just move on the spot. I read through the review and thought I had a faulty product but the instructions has a trouble shoot page at the back and after opening him back up I could see the screws holding the cogs where in fact lose. It then worked perfectly and my son was so happy he got to built the toy with me. The parts do have sharp edges when popping them out but the instructions say to use pliers and we had no issues or injuries. For the money I think it’s amazing.

Suitable for an 8 year old +
I tried to put it together with a 7 year old and they are just not old enough to understand the intricacies of the gears and the patience to spend a few hours assembling the robot. While the end result is great, I would suggest not buying this for a younger child. The quality of the parts is great, overall very solid and comes with clear instructions. This is a noisy toy, as in, the gears make noise when it's walking around, but it is also not intended to be used on a daily basis. It's very interactive and the joy of it is piecing it together.

Good little robot in the end but tears along the way
My six year old saw the video and fell in love. I knew she’d need help but it actually was way too complicated and fiddly for my 8 or even 12 year to assemble without considerable help. Also one of the wire connectors came off (luckily we were able to borrow a soldering iron). Then at first it didn’t work. We checked the batteries and they seemed to be inserted correctly and were new, but it must be very particular as it wasn’t until I took them all out and reinserted them the next day in desperation as our daughter was so disappointed that it actually worked (we really thought it faulty)! Anyhow, all working now and it was a good educational family lockdown project that the kids found entertaining (once it worked!) for awhile... but we had a lot of tears along the way!

Brilliant building project
The media could not be loaded. Bought for my 9yr old daughter. Was built with the help of her dad, I’m not sure if children would be able to build this by themselves with no help. Took around 2-3hrs and seems to all be working well! The video shows Tobbie in discovery mode where he just walks around exploring. Also has a mode where he will follow you if you put your hand in front of him and another mode where he will back away from your hand being in front of him. Daughter is so pleased with it. Is noisy but that doesn’t bother us and I can imagine it draining batteries quite quickly but haven’t used it for long enough to know how quickly! Those in the reviews where it is not working I think it’s going to be down to the build process. It’s a long process and requires a lot of accuracy and attention to detail to get it right.

Terrible - dangerous and doesn’t work!
I spent a long time building this robot. It was extremely stressful and I kept injuring myself. The plastic where you have to take out the pieces is very dangerous and sharp and you have to put so much pressure to take out the parts. It’s very sharp and scratches you so be very careful. Not suitable for children! Also the screws are extremely difficult to tighten. I bought a screwdriver to fit the correct size of the small screws since my regular screwdriver is too big. Ended up injuring my hand with all the pressure I had to use. It was a very unpleasant and stressful experience building this robot and it doesn’t even work! I took it apart to see if there was anything I could fix, tried reassembling it and still doesn’t walk! I regret wasting my money in this purchase!

Great Kit!
Strangely, I loved the fact it deliberately had a bit left over "there's always a bit left over"...showing how well thought out the kit is (...its a jig to align the drive cogs, which then has to be removed once everything is placed and screwed together). If I built another one I may try lubricting all the moving parts with petroleum jelly, as its a bit noisy when operating. I found it very easy to assemble, the instructions being well laid out and clear. My little Grandson is facinated by it, especially when it "flinches" when he waves his hand at it.Overall, I think its great value for money, even if it is not as durable as I would have liked - my grandson picked it up by one leg and it made graoning noises!
