Echo Spot (newest gen), Smart alarm clock with vibrant sound, Black, with Alexa+ Early Access

The new Echo Spot is a brilliant little smart alarm clock. The screen is bright and clear, the sound is surprisingly full for its size, and Alexa makes it easy to set alarms, check the weather, or play music. It looks great on the bedside table and feels like a big upgrade from a standard clock.

This Amazon Echo Dot is an impressive piece of kit. Essentially a smart speaker but does so much more, just saying the 'wake' word Alexa and you can ask it to do almost anything. It is an absolute doddle to set up, from unpacking and turning on, I was all set up in two minutes. By default the device shows you the time, date and current weather in your area. But either by saying Alexa or using the Alexa mobile app you can set up the device to do other things, such as set alarms, create medication reminders or switch to Bluetooth mode and play music. The beauty of the device is its simplicity, it really is so easy to use. The sound quality on music playback is terrific, and Alexas voice when speaking to you is crisp and clear. Overall this is a great multifunctional device. Five stars.

Got this primarily as a bedside clock to wake me up. I am deaf and at half volume it does wake me. Setup was easy and connected to my account straight away as Amazon did a pre-setup for me. The picture is so crisp that on full brightness I can see the white numbers at night with my very blurred short sighted vision and it doesn’t act as a torch so doesn’t keep me awake. I bought the Mission battery to go with it to act as a stand and to lift it up so when my head is on my pillow it is level with my head and hasn’t disappeared below the edge of my bed as my bed is high as I have to sleep with it on a slope. Also means I can use it in the bathroom during showers stood on the cabinet without wires. The battery life is good hasn’t run out for me yet. Plays music from my Amazon Music which it wakes me up with too. Can tap it on the top to snooze the alarm just like those old fashioned alarm clocks. However I had to deactivate this feature on my bedroom Spot. I opened my bedside cabinet drawer with it playing music from the alarm and when I shut the drawer, the Spot went into snooze mode! The vibrations from shutting the drawer were enough to think it was me tapping it, so the sensors are far too sensitive and there is I can find, only the option of turning it off not turning the sensitivity down. Also shows the timer countdown when I set a timer on its screen. Now here is where it falls down. This replaced my ancient Echo Dot ball with the clock on it as that was no longer responding to my voice properly. By comparison its sound quality I don’t think is as good. In fact, it doesn’t have the same deep base. My mum bought the 2024 Echo Dot ball without the clock and that sounds a lot better I felt and is a fraction of the price. I feel the developers have used too much space on a fancy screen and skimped on the room for the speaker making it too small. I do not feel it is worth the full retail price Amazon is charging. I bought it on an offer of just under £100 for two, about £25 off each unit, which I feel £50 per unit is about right. My second one is in the lounge where I leave my dog when I go out to replace his ancient Echo Dot Ball with clock that was also not responding to my voice very well to play classical music for him as he finds that calming, and I have a clock in my lounge that sets itself so I don’t have to remember to. So if all you want is an occasional use bedside cabinet clock or want it to display the time and date, then I would go for this. However if all you want is to use it to listen to music, I suggest going for the 2024 Amazon Dot ball without the clock with I feel, the better sound.

So far so good, I’m a fan of the Alexa devices anyway but the added screen is a great touch. You can use specific songs as your alarm wake up, or have the radio come on etc. Very nostalgic. I love that you can adjust the bass etc, as well as the volume. The quality and the sound is impressive for an Alexa device, I wouldn’t need anymore for a bedroom. The screen brightness can be dimmed or completely switched off but the alarm still works. Easy to setup and use, my son loves it too and has asked for one. The best thing about Alexa devices is having the kettle boiled, the floor hoovered, the lights and music on and breakfast warming - all before you get out of bed, lets me focus on getting the kids ready for school. Having it as a visual alarm clock is just a bonus as well as reducing screen time on my phone. I bought it when it was on offer and at that price it was great but I don’t think I’d pay full price for it.

I bought this for my daughter as she was using her mobile phone as an alarm to get up for school and buying this meant that she could leave her phone in the kitchen overnight, reducing the temptation of more screen time, but still having all the features of music, radio and I'm sure many more. It has been fantastic so far. My daughter can set different times for her alarm for different days of the week. She has selected the alarm sound that she likes (out of a long list of options)it wakes her up with Alexa telling her the time, temperature and weather forecast for the day. It is also great for playing Spotify or just the radio. The screen dims at night and the whole thing looks stylish yet understated. My son has an older version which isn't a clock and this new version is so much better. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

This was a great product.. it became an excellent product when Alexa Plus launched, in terms of the most useful in your day to day life AI service it’s been so impressive the work Amazon has done to make this fun, interactive, and much smoother than previous iterations, the display while smaller than the original is optimised for showing the key information you need. The speaker for a small size is really clear with a wide range of music services and media content supported. You can start your day with powerful routines, with a smart home setup you can have your morning kick off started by your alarm. If you want a wider range of media options a show might be a great one for you but for a high powered excellent value clock this is great for you.

Just what I wanted, a good alarm clock and a good way to go off to sleep plus it is an alexa so you can ask it questions and you can see what the weather is doing at a glance.

One of the easiest devices I have ever set up. Pretty much did it all on its own. Quality is excellent, perfect addition to any room.

I do like this but unfortunately I sleep in a black room and noticeable light comes from it even at its lowest setting. So I can't use it. I was thinking maybe I could put black tint on it.

She's really good. I loved the design with the screen because it's nice to see the weather and time or the music that's playing. I like Alexa's features, but after the GPT chat, it became a bit outdated hahaha. It's time for Amazon to merge it with AI to bring more search options. But anyway, I love the convenience of being able to ask my favorite music or podcast to play with enviable sound quality. The power of this speaker is incredible with a very pleasant sound. In terms of sound, it beats JBL hands down 😅
