Cleaning the hose is different from cleaning the bladder. You can clean the hose with a long handled, narrow bottle brush. The hose unclips from the bladder which means you can directly clean as much of the hose as your bottle brush will reach. There are several suitable bottle brushes available on Amazon. Searching for "Munchkin bottle brush" will return some good options.

What's the trick to make this thing stop leaking? Carried it hanging in my ruck, and the bar separated from the bag. Screw top also leaks...

Make sure you slide the bar tightly against the bladder's plastic top, doubled over. Don't touch the bar while hiking. I don't know why the screw top leaks. Make sure you tighten it securely. .
