This SSD comes with everything you need to back up and restore should you be facing any problems. My mac was on the fritz permissions wise so i needed to do a full wipe and upgrade to the latest os.unboxed this, plugged it in, and its already on the right type EXFAT so everything works on mac and windows.got all my data saved pretty fast and restored my mac with EASE. i bought a mini pc and was able to get all my stuff on windows and both ssds backed up should anything else happen so i wont have down time. well worth the money.

An Excellent Drive for Photo Storage & Editing
Addressing the elephant in the room, this external requires its own power supply, it cannot simply run off of being connected to a computer. As uncommon as that is today, you should know it before purchasing and if thatās a deal breaker then you need a different external device. If thatās not an issue for you then I would highly recommend this drive. For me, the only limitation is bringing this drive in the field or maybe using It at an airport, which I personally wouldnāt do anyway. Itās not inconvenient to bring it from home to the office or using it in a hotel and even a lot of coffee shops have plugs near tables today. It simply depends on where you are going to need to use it.I use the 8tb with my MacBook Pro to house all of my 100K+ image library for Lightroom and Photoshop work. For the past several years I have shot with a Sony a7R III and Canon R5, both produce large raw files and editing them through this drive, especially complex edits, has been much faster than my prior drives. I do not do any video work, so I cannot speak to how well it would perform, but I would expect very well. The drive is responsive and fast, and (fortunately) I have not suffered from any connection issues. For a āportableā ssd it is on the chunky side, definitely not pocketable, but when sitting on my desk or a hotel bedside table I wouldnāt consider it oversized or inconvenient. I do think it is a bit too pricey, but currently, the options for an 8tb external ssd are limited. If you need (or just want) a large capacity external ssd I would highly recommend this drive, especially if you are considering using it as I do, to carry an image library and run edits through it.

Great backup or primary.
More than enough capacity for complete home office. Am using as a primary storage for documents/pictures/music with iDrive for backup but could see it used as a high-capacity backup drive. Decided to stop using OneDrive and Google Drive and easily accommodated what I had on those services. No lag issues with drive access. Runs a little bit hot. No noise whatsoever.

Almost a 5 Star
Overall, I was very pleased with the product and would recommend it. You have to keep in mind, however, that it is compatible with Windows 10 and up (but not backwards). I did try to use it with an older Windows 7 laptop, hoping that it might work but it was not recognized. Again, that's not the fault of the device, they were clear about the compatibility but you must be aware of this if you have an older computer. I had to work around it by moving files to an older external drive first and then move them to the Sandisk from there. I also ran into issues with the Acronis True Image software that came with it. It took forever to load and would not complete an image backup without errors. To be fair, this could be an issue with my computer but my computer is fairly new and has Windows 11, so I wasn't expecting to have a problem. To work around this, I was able to switch to "EaseUS Todo - free" and it worked fine. Also moving files with Windows File Explorer worked fine. You also have to keep in mind that the advertised speed only applies to reading or writing directly to or from the Sandisk. When I moved files from other hard drives to the Sandisk, the copy process was much, much slower, probably due to the speed of the other devices. So, the only reason I gave it a 4 vs. a 5 was because, I kept running into issues that I had to resolve and I had hoped it would be a much smoother process. I had not had the problem with other external drives that I have. However, the Sandisk itself, when used as designed and mentioned in the specs, worked just fine. I am not disappointed in my purchase and recommend it for its quality and performance. It is small, made well, easy to use, and had very significant storage capacity. If you have a current, nice computer, it probably will be just fine.

LOST DATA | Power Adapter? | Disconnects | STAY AWAY
Who makes drives with power adapter in 2024? All of the external SSD drives that I saw, none of them have power adapter, but ok I thought, I use it on my desk and maybe it would be more reliable, NOPE!Drive gets very HOT, but then it would disconnect. WHAT? I though it was a fluke, so I kept itSince the work I do requires me to work on large files and my MAC doesn't have enough space, I work directly on the drive.Second time it disconnected, the whole drive got corrupted. I see the partition, it is greyed out and it is not mounting, I'm pressing the button, but nothing happens. Lost 4 days of work for NO reasonJust stay away, it is not worth it

Fast and dead silent
Great drive. Works perfectly. No fan means dead quiet performance.

So far, so good !
High capacity SSD at a reasonable price. I got the read/write speeds as advertised!!! Iām using it specifically to access very large sound libraries for music production and for Lightroom photo editing and archiving.
