Its more money that some brands, but so worth it. Smell is a bit 'strong' I was varnishing several metres away in the garden and neighbour having a BQ said, 'ohh I can smell varnish.' I recommend varnishing out side and drying outside protected from sun and rain or in a shed. I made a spice rack and used this to varnish bits of pine and then screw them together. Took 6 days for the smell to go from the shed! Drying time depends on weather, During this heat in south I was varnishing at 8:30pm ir 6:30pm. First coat applied at 6:30pm, took 90 minutes until touch dry in July. However, just flipped outdoor piece, left under a table with a cover on (no rain forecast) and left it 48 hours, it was movable.Bare pallets needed 2 coats, good quality, good consistency and veritile.

Bought the 1L of this to treat outdoor wooden garden furniture. I read the reviews about the tins being damaged, and sedimentation of product, but I had no such issues. Tin arrived perfectly, and sealed with duct tape round rim. I left tin upside down for a while, and when I opened it, it only required a quick stir with a screwdriver. It went onto untreated wood easily enough, but would now probably use a primer coat of varnish thinned down with turps, after having used it; it is quite thick, and was a bit 'draggy' using a 2" brush to apply. Took about 24 hrs to dry completely, and was a lovely mid-sheen finish. Can't comment on durability, as I have just done the job, but it certainly looks a decent finish to me. Very happy with the product overall, and have already bought another tin-happy days!

Good alternative to Ronseal equivalent. Easy to apply in well ventilated area. However, care needs to be taken when applying over and along edges / corners of wooden frames / structures as the product will leave ‘drip’ marks on adjacent surface unless carefully brushed over. Best to follow guide on side of tin.

Does what it says on the tin. Next time I'm buying the 2.5l size. Would reccomend to everyone

Got this to weatherproof the new wooden slats I bought to refurbish some old garden furniture. Figured if it was good enough for a sea-going yacht it should keep the rain out of the furniture in my garden. As I was applying it to bare wood, I followed the recommendation to dilute it with 25% white spirit. The wood quickly soaked up the first coat, leaving the colour deepened but not really altering the matt look. With the second coat, the satin sheen started to become apparent, after the third coat the finish was beautiful, as was the colour of the wood, which had gone from a pale ochre to rich yellowy-reddy-orange. Perfect! So far, it seems to be repelling water well. We've had some quite heavy rain and all that's left at the end of it is little blobs of water on the surface of the wood. Let's see how it survives the winter (albeit covered with a tarp - I'm not taking any chances!).

Proper smelly varnish, not healthy but who care? As long as it does the job on our very wet (at the moment) front gate, well it is Wales after all??

Have used this varnish before, and it works well for me. Lovely satin finish. Do what they say on the tin i.e. thin it 20% for the first coat on new wood. In fact, I thin it for all the coats, and it goes far. It will dry in 24 hours, but leave it longer to properly harden, say, several days in warm weather. I usually walk away from it for a week before putting stuff on the surface. I've never sprayed with it, but I bet it would achieve an even better finish than by brush (which still looks good). I paid about £11 for a 500ml tin on Amazon, which I think is good value.

We used it to coat the wooden kitchen countertops!

Vernis employé pour revernir une table et des chaises en extérieur. Question application, super par contre, je trouve que le vernis fait plus brillant que satiné ; j'espère qu'au fil du temps, ce brillant va passer...
