Multi Level Chess Board Game Set - Unique Present for Adults & Kids

This is the most appealing chess board I've come across. For any chess lovers out there, this is a cool collectible to have on your table or desk. I've bought a few rather expensive marble sets in the past that draws attention when you touch them, but this piece intrigues even non-players alike by just looking. I've had this board for about a month now, and I'm in love with it.Its very well designed and the concept is well revealed and executed. I've seen concepts of 3D boards in the past, but this is the closest thing to reality.Now the bad:This board looks phenomenal from all angles but...Of course, there's always a but (or a couple).- The sides are not exactly straight all around. You can feel some of the squares and edges are out of place. Since the squares are made of individual pieces, and the base is a separate piece, the placements are slightly off when you run your hands from my corner to the other. Not easily spotted with the eye but either way, it's still something you can feel and see if you're inspecting it.-Secondly, the pieces. The pieces are very niece by touch and they look great with detail. The only issue I have is that, in proportion to the rest of the board, it looks rather small. I wouldn't mind if the board was smaller, but in this case, it feels out of place. It doesn't look like it belongs to the board. The colors are great in relation to the board but I just wish they were somewhat larger and longer.If none of this seems to be an issue for you, you should definitely get one. I can imagine the prices will only get higher once they become a popular item here. I am giving this 5 stars because I wasn't expecting a perfect item when I purchased it. For a chess board of this style under $50, I think its worth it. Now if they fixed these issues and prices it at $100, I wouldn't mind paying.

Likes:- Unique, interesting and beautiful idea!Dislikes:- whereas handcrafted products get a lot of imperfection forgiveness from me (they give character and beauty), this chessboard has ones that evidence just plain lazy craftsmanship.#1 - the blocks are cut to irregular sizes. More than just a little bit, and more than just a few of them.#2 - many of the blocks have knicks and/or splintered edges. Not too deep to be replaced during production, but shallow enough to have been remedied with just a touch of light sanding...very annoying that they didn't.#3 - half-assed wood staining. There's a few knicks with exposed wood. Only the tops of each cube have 2 coats, and the edges have only one...which is very visible because of the terraced design. Finally, even the edges of the board have only one coat of stain, and the color difference between the edges and the top makes it look really cheap.#4 - finally, the most inexcusable mistake...the orientation is wrong: A8 & H1 (bottom-right square for each player) should be a white (light) square, and on my board they are black (dark). I notice on other reviews this is correct, which tells me the craftsmen are not paying attention to the correct placements of the wood blocks. Yes, I could simply spin the board 90 degrees, but that defeats the intent of the Queen and King sitting upon the precipice of their sides of the board.Net-net: this board is unique and could be truly beautiful, but sadly lacks the level of workmanship to pull it off, and it falls far short of a level of quality expected for its price point, in my opinion.Hope this helps in your shopping and decision-making, Cheers!

Update: To my very surprise, I was contacted and they sent me a new chess board! Very pleased this time. All the pieces are intact.It’s a great design, with poor parts. Several wood cubes came out when unwrapping the chess board. They can’t even use proper glue...

Great design, but board received has squares colored opposite of product photo. Bottom-right square should be white, as in photo, but it is dark, which reverses the king/queen position for both sides and causes confusion. Board quality is otherwise good, but small imperfections in the size and condition of the wood blocks that I would really not expect with a $49 chess set. If the block colors were fixed, I would be happy to pay $29 for a set like this.

Very unique board with the different levels. We also purchased wooden checkers to use with the board.

We were looking for "something different" and unique for our formal living room. This 3d chess board was exactly that. I coupled it with a King Arthur "Christian" chess set and it looks ABSOLUTELY amazing! Alreadt a conversation piece with the neighbors.

The set arrived in good condition and appeared to be complete. However, no directions or guidance were provided. Numerous board square pieces were loose. No indication on what, if any, changes are needed to standard chess rules. I sent a separate inquiry to Blu Devil but no response at this time (12-27-2018).

Soooo cool, got it as a gift for my fiance, it makes for a really neat table topper when not in use

From what I can tell the item I received seems to be 'seconds' defects in the wood and the board is not square on the base, dark squares are varnished with what appears to be two different varnishes. Pieces have no weight to them at all.Other than that it is quite novel and has kept my daughter playing for longer than she usually does, climing the steps to your opponents side gives the game a bit more depth and does feel great after playing on a flat board forever, I do think the next one I purchase will have to be a similar product to this.Would recommend the product type but not this exact product. Hope this helps.
