Wing Spear

Very substantial spear.The package arrived and as most have noted there is no hardware to attach the head to the shaft. Buying the wood screws needed is no big deal and honestly I may not have needed them as after test fitting I need a 4lb sledge to get the head off the shaft...The blade seems solid and well made, come with a slight edge, not sharp enough to really slice like a sharp knife but if you consider that it is meant to be a thrusting tool it has a point that will punch through a lot and not break off, the spin on the head is THINK and runs all the way to the point. While the blued finish looks great, I would honestly rather have bare metal with a slight polish, but oh well.The shaft is straight and very solid, I think that a taper on both ends might be a better design allowing for a butt cap, but I will leave that to a future project.Overall I am pretty impressed and hope to never be on the wrong end of this thing!

This spear is a beast! The most important thing to note is that the spear head is a solid piece, unlike some of Cold Steel's other spears that wrap around the shaft like a shovel or rake and look nice only from one side. The blackened finish is also nicer than expected, I thought it was painted black but thankfully it's not. It isn't overly sharp but given the mass this thing would have no trouble poking through a zombie or two. The spear head fits the shaft like a glove which is surprising as well since every other axe handle I have bought from Cold Steel needed serious work (see my other reviews). I am not overly happy with the finish colour of the shaft though...it is dark brown but has a hint of purple to it...yuck. Also the packaging is kind of idiotic, the box with the spear head is taped directly to the shaft with packaging tape so there is gross sticky tape residue all over the shaft that you have to waste time cleaning. I also wish it included a sheath because you do not want poking someone by accident.

Far too massive and thick for practical use. You could use this to hunt with as its proportioned like the Boar Spear. Big,thick and heavy. However for back up use as protection in wilderness survival it would not be as practical as other cold steel spears like the long shaft Assegai or the European spear. It does look like it when last a long time however.

I want to give this spear 5 star so bad but I just can't. I do like this spear, the design is great, both for cool factor and function but having the spear in my hand, I'm a little disappointed. First and most disappointing the spear did not come razor sharp, not even sharp. I could run my finger down the blade and will not break my skin. Mine might be the 1 out of 1000 that didn't get a razor edge but I expect razors from Cold Steel. Second, the spearhead is forged but you could still see grinder marks in some places. Third, the finish on the shaft is sub par, the stain is blotchy and the clear coat feels pimply, I could see white specks under the clear coat. Lastly, and some may not agree, this spear is made in India. No insult intended but there is something about steel from India that does not seem "right". (from past experience with such steel). I just hope the heat treatment is done correctly. My opinion, this is over priced. I like this spear, just want to like it more, look like its going to be project. Again, mine might be the 1 in 1000, but if they are all like this, Lynn Thompson need to get to India to find out WTF.

Total badass beauty right here. High-quality, solid-fitting handle and head, with a very nice finish. If I was holding this and a rhino charged, yeah, I'd still be pretty concerned. So I'll stay out of rhinoceros country. But against anything less imposing, I figure I'd have a better-than-average chance to come out on top.
