Gold Glaze for Ceramic Pottery,Bisque,PCG01,

I’m giving it five stars for the color but I just want to discuss a couple of things that I am noticing other reviewers not saying I fired mine to cone six 2232°F over a 12 hour period. I poured this glaze on, and I do enjoy the gold look, but the glaze does run quite a bit (if thick). You can see the difference between the application of the bisque test tile and the finished glaze result, the glaze ran all the way down; but the color is really nice. It has a texture like when you get milk skin forming on top of a pot of boiling milk (it has texture unless fired flat where it’s then very smooth).

Tried once. LOVE! This is a flat lip of a vase that I'm showing in my picture and although you can't see inside the glaze didn't really run down and pool a lot. I had read what a lot of other users had indicated in some of the glazing groups that I belong to and the discussion was between 4:00 and six codes. I put this glaze on the inside and the edge of this tiny vase though I did do 4 coats inside, and 6 thin coats on rim. It is a very medium thin glaze that goes on nicely. And frankly I am out of my mind happy with the color. My next piece I'm going to redux coats to 5 light coats and see how that works because people said they were fine with only 4, some said 6--- So you know it all depends on the user how this will work for you I decided to try the highest level first. I don't think six is necessary. Of course this glaze is cheaper than other most known brands and yet it isn't cheaper when you consider extra coats. So you'd have to figure it out for yourself with the color is worth it.. I don't use gold a lot however this is going to be just an exquisite touch to certain pieces.

Due to the great reviews, I ordered the gold for a piece I was working on for a client. After waiting for a month for the order to be fulfilled, unfortunately, the glaze arrived as a giant somewhat dried out clump in the middle of the jar with translucent water all around it. Horrible quality control. I tried for over an hour to mix it in and blend it together. I ended up still with the clump in the middle and what looked like lumpy oatmeal surrounding it. This glaze was unusable and would not adhere to the bisque. The client was in a time crunch, and so I did not have time to go out and buy another gold or to exchange this. I tried a different glaze that I had on hand, but this caused a great disappointment for the client and I ended up having to keep the piece myself. Not happy.

The gold lends itself to gorgeous detail and enhances your art. Please excuse the unfired glaze. I'm currently refiring a few pieces but I wanted to show a photo of two layers of this. This glaze is on the rim of this pottery. I would recommend the four layers to get a bright solid gold. At two layers it's more bronze which I think is really cool as well.

My first firing at cone 6 was a total disaster. My first clue should have been the giant lump of glaze that took a knife and wire whip to break up. I think it had been sitting for a while. Next, the application process was challenging. It felt too thick and began to flake after the 2nd coat. By the 4th coat, I was using mostly water. The result was a ton of crawling. I reglazed successfully but in retrospect should have added gum after I realized how badly it was applying. A lot of work to get it right. Looks great after 2 firings I think it likes a hotter kiln, say cone 7.

This is super gold as long as you STIR IT WELL! It comes settled, with a chunk of glaze at the bottom. If you don’t mix it until it’s all FULLY MIXED IN it won’t be gold.

It still gets 5 stars because you can’t knock a metallic glaze for being finicky because they all are. That being said this still performed better than any other mid/high fire alternatives that I’ve tried like amaco’s saturation gold at cone 6. I’ve just started playing with it on some test tiles and it does seem to prefer being fired flat instead of vertically. My brush strokes were extremely consistent on the vertical test tile but I got a mix of bronze and gold after doing 4 coats. My brushing was less consistent on the star and I think I did about 3 coats but it came out a better gold regardless of the thin spots. I think the quality is good- especially for the cost but I’d be lying if I said this glaze is going to be easy to use. I think it’s going to take a lot of trial and error and testing to master other folks amazing results but all in all I’m very excited to have found it and I’m excited to keep playing with it!

I had high hopes for this glaze, especially since it’s on the pricier side, but I’ve had a difficult time working with it. When it arrived, the glaze had separated in the bottle there was a solid ball of glaze at the bottom and the rest was just water. It took a lot of effort to get it mixed back together. On my test tile, I liked the results, but when I applied it to a bisque piece, it crawled badly. After adding a second coat, it cracked, which was very disappointing. I really do like the look of the glaze when it works, but it’s been inconsistent and frustrating to use. For the cost, I expected better performance, and right now it’s giving me more trouble than I can manage.

This glaze IS like liquid gold, and it's becoming more precious than real gold. It is NOT a gold overglaze luster. It will not do fancy writing on top of another glaze, and it won't make a pretty gold rim, but it WILL turn out pretty much like the test tile in the photo. It fires great at Cone 6. It doesn't run on its own, but it WILL run like the dickens if it so much as breathes near another glaze. So, be aware of that. It is fabulous, and worth the $$.

The glaze arrived settled and lumpy/gritty and required a lot of work including sieving before use. At this price I expected better quality ex factory. However it is a really good shiny gold if fired to Cone 6.

Didn’t come out of the kiln golden….unfortunately didn’t fire to a high enough temp
