No. You need the K+DCAN cable and something like INPA to communicate with the car's electronics.

Will this work on 2012 bmw z4?

On your E89, it very well should. You will need ISTA diagnostic software however to talk to the car.

Does it work for bmw x1 e84?

In general, this cable will NOT work on an E-series BMW. You need the K+DCAN USB cable instead along with INPA or similar.
