Perfect English Townhouse

I currently own an English Townhouse, and I had no idea how to decorate an English style home. The book Perfect English Townhouse gave me some wonderful pictures and ideas for decorating. I really like this book and will use it to gather decorating ideas for my own home.

Enjoyable book!

Book contains beautiful photographs of pretty typical samples of the minimally restored/upgraded English country cottage look—heavily decorated with the usual mismatched antique/secondhand clutter, reclaimed floorboards, bookcases, China cabinets, floor-hugging drapes and Persian carpets, overstuffed chairs, etc. (think 221B Baker and St. Mary Mead in arrested decay). But, much as I like this look, I do wish the author had shown more varied samples of it.

Another great book from Ms. Shaw. Each featured house has in-depth captions for photos and a well-written article about the house and owners, so you feel like you have been given your own personal tour of each home. Photography is great and the range of townhouses is wonderful. Beautiful, comfortable interiors for lovers of both traditional and more contemporary styles, but most of the townhouses are in more traditional buildings.

As a lover of history and old homes, this book inspires me. I am not a modernist.Some styles are more timeless. Mid-century will always be mid-century, but an older house lends itself to borrowing from not only its time, but times before and after. History is rich, cosmopolitan, and compelling. The world is our oyster.

This is a beautifully written book that illustrates the owners' personal collections of artwork, antiques and collected treasures which lend themselves to wonderfully layered rooms. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy old-world design, but it is not for those who enjoy sparse interiors.

An excellent addition to her series of books on English decor. Like all of her books, you can look through this over and over, finding something new each time. The interiors are gorgeous, the photography excellent, and the layout of the book is fabulous. There's also a nice mix of shots with some featuring entire rooms and others that are close ups of various vignettes and details. I wonder where she will go next with this series -- it would be nice to see a "Perfect English Studio" that focused on the work spaces of artists. Highly recommend this book and the series in general.
