First class production very interesting play. No player down time. You may choose to sit out a round, but it’s your decision. The wave mechanism is clever, and the use of meeples is also clever. As the lie on their board awaiting the next wave or riding it in. Fun and fast, you feel as if you’re in a surfing tournament.

We bought this as a gift for a friend that enjoys surfing. We played the game with our friend and it was really fun. Very different type of game from other board games I was used to playing, and I definitely do not know anything about surfing, but I enjoyed it every bit as much as someone with surfing lingo would like.

Tavarua - The Surfing Board Game First played at SaltCon 2018 where I played a total of 27 board games. Immediately upon my return purchased Tavarua & one other board game. An instant hit with me. A very thematic surfing game, very different from anything I have owned or played. It has a clever mechanism for catching waves & balancing on the incoming board.. The game was easy to play although the rule book could use improvement, quality components, and a visually attractive game as well.

We found once we watched “How to Play Tavarua” on YouTube by Bored Online it became much easier to play. We learned with some friends. Once we understood the mechanics and scoring Tavarua was super FUN! It was a Christmas Gift to them- now we will just have to get our own copy! 😉

I enjoyed this game. Learning the rules took quite a bit of time, even for an experienced group of gamers, but the result was rewarding. Very replayable. We simplified the rules the first few times and built up to the full play. I really like the game play/mechanics of the progressing waves and planning maneuvers plus the chance involved with each coming wave section. I would definitely recommend for the fan of Euro style games.

Love this game! Unique theme. Unique mechanics. Everyone I've taught and played with loves it too. Everyone plays at the same time so nobody sits and waits. It's great. Can be played solo. Takes a game or two to get the hang of how the game should flow. But after that it all just makes sense.
