Great way to tackle the problem of improving music reading in pianists
As a piano teacher I really like this book. I find that most of my students struggle to read piano music fluently and often end up semi-memorising their pieces as a result. This means that their music reading skills suffer even more. I really like the fact that the pieces each give a completely different challenge to the student. They are not boring "sight reading" test pieces but real music. I like the concept of learning a new (easy) piece EVERY WEEK but it has been difficult to get students to try and do this. Here, the fact that the book cover actually says ' a piece a week' means that they finally understand that I really do mean 'learn this piece in ONE week'. The proof is in the eating, as they say, and I can report that my students who are using this book are getting much better at music reading.

Get this for all Pre G1 Students!
I buy all of these books for my students. Great to use alongside progressive repertoire. Gentle encouragement is needed from the teacher, giving the student the necessary tools to fully engage in all of the details for theirselves. Overtime, they will get excited about the characters and find them on their own, changing the way they view all new repertoire they learn in the future.

An excellent way to gradually introduce Grade 1 level pupils to sight reading tests and 'break them in' gently. I am able to work with them on each aspect of sight reading individually, such as reading head, counting time/keeping tempo going, tied and staccato notes etc. It helps to build up their skills/confidence for sight reading tests during examinations.
