Wound Packing Trainer Kit, Stop the Bleeding Training Kit

good for first aid trainning

I bought this for a stop the bleed training, was a little apprehensive of what the quality would be due to the cheap price but worked great held up well.

Wish it was a little bigger but hey it worked for what I needed it too. I tonight several classes (STB- stop the bleed) along with putting student's under stress for TECC &TCCC.

The wound packing training kit seems to work well for beginners. It works well for entry training or demonstration purposes. The wound hole is about the size of a quarter in diameter and is a straight hole with no bones or detailed cavities like a high-fidelity wound packing device. It holds a lot of training gauze. The bottom of the silicone wound hole is concave which helps the device stick to a smooth surface table preventing it from sliding around. The liquid bag and soft silicone hose work well with either gravity or a trainee assistant gently squeezing to mimic blood wound flow. The silicone hose has some minor creases from being rolled up in the carry bag but doesn't prevent fake blood from flowing with the right height of gravity or assisted pressure. The fake blood powder works well enough but I might try using TruClot fake blood next time. The training kit weighs about 815.8 grams. Overall, it's a good beginners' training kit to get started with and better than using foam pool noodle.

The quality of this simulated wound for a stop the bleed training is decent, but my first impression is noticing that the simulated wound is just a cylinder all the way down. Other wound trainers I've used have had smaller entry wounds with a cavity underneath to help train people what it's like to pack gunshot wounds that don't necessarily present as having cavities from the outside. The second issue I noted is that the tubing is permanently kinked and doesn't allow the full flow of liquid to simulate the bleeding wound. It will have to be replaced. This is a substantial training device. It's thick and heavy enough that you can lean on it to practice applying pressure on top of the packed wound. It does not have a pressure sensing clicker as some trainers do. Overall, this is a usable simulated wound for training for stopping bleeding. However, I still prefer the round thigh-shaped trainers that have smaller entry wounds that are more realistic. But they are also more expensive. This comes with 10 g of a red dye powder. They say to mix 2 g with 500 mL of water to create the simulated blood. Not very useful instructions if you don't happen to have a gram accurate scale. I have not yet tested the dye to see how much it stains. I don't think students will appreciate getting stained. I do think having the simulated blood flow is a potentially useful feature to help people train more realistically, so they'll be better prepared should they ever need the training. But I also think it's not practical for most group training sessions.

Strong and durable have used for about 10 first aid classes students love it Only downfall wish it came with a pole to hold the blood but the students have been helping with that and I will buy some poles
