For lower priced studio monitors, these are very hard to beat!
These speakers replace a very old (circa 2000!!) 2.1 setup of Altec Lansing computer speakers. I needed something more accurate and clear than the old setup so I went with these. How do they sound? I think for what they are, they sound great! Bass is nice but not boomy. Treble is sharp but not piercing. They are near field monitors so they won't blast your ears off, nor are they designed for such. They can get pretty loud though. For stereo imaging, they are also very good for soundstage placement. On the back of the monitor, there is a gain (volume) knob that is usually set to max. Also, there is a sensitivity selector either (+4 dB) for higher signal levels from your mixer / interface or whatever and -10dB for lower signal levels. That will give you a lot more gain at that setting. Most setups will have the switch at the +4dB setting as mine are. Also for the tweeter, there is a switch that reduces the output -2dB, the middle is flat, and the right setting is +2dB which will give a slight rise in the treble. I have mine set for +2 since my middle aged ears can't hear treble like they did in my early 20's.On the back for signal connections are TRS and XLR inputs, along with the input volume / gain, and power. My speakers are connected to an external interface, a Focusrite 4i4.Along with the speakers, I ordered a pair of TRS cables. If you have an interface and these speakers, use TRS cables! My speakers arrived earlier than expected so they outpaced the pair of TRS cables I also ordered for use with these speakers. I had some TS cables so I used those first. I heard noise from the computer when I moved the mouse and whatnot so that should tell you something. ALWAYS use balanced cables, whether they are XLR or TRS, when using these or any other monitors next to a computer.Next day the TRS cables came in and I switched the cables over to the TRS ones. And the noise went away.My only complaint is the power cords are very short. So a trip to WalMart for an extension cable with 3 plug-ins was in order.Aside from the short power cords, I'm thoroughly pleased with these speakers.

Great audio, but pay attention to connection requirements
If you are looking at these because you want great sound from your laptop or pc and don’t want to settle for pc speakers these are great but you need to know you have to buy a usb device and special audio cables. I thought they were crap because the sound was so quiet at max volume, another person recommended the focusrite scarlett device, once I got that and the proper balanced audio cables I couldn’t be happier. I ended up buying the subwoofer as well and the audio is amazing. So again great option for people who are pros, if your a newb like me who went down a rabbit hole of wanting great sound from your computer these are still great but know you will need to buy a few extra items you may not be aware of. I wish this was a little more clear in the description or as a top question. Maybe I did something wrong but a simple audio jack to XLR converter cable did not work. Hope this helps.

Can’t go wrong, especially for the price!
I absolutely love these speakers. I’m an audio post mixer and decided to step up my game and make a proper home studio since covid has forced me to mix from home. I wasn’t going to drop 5 grand on some Genelecs, or even 3 grand on some Adam Audio speakers, and people kept recommending the JBL mk3’s, and they do not disappoint. I have the 308’s for my LCR and the matching sub and I have the 305’s for surrounds. Pair that with the Scarlett 18i20 and it’s a home run. I went to guitar center and listened to pretty much every pro studio monitor they had there and the JBL’s were by far the best sounding, and at $199 on sale, you can’t go wrong. The highs are crystal clear and these speakers have a fantastic low frequency response. I was worried that I’d need 2 subs - one for bass management and one for LFE but the 308’s definitely don’t need bass management in a smaller listening environment. My only complaint is that the volume control knob on the back has detentes so when I was tuning my “room” aka my basement, I could only get within about 1.5dB. Again, not a huge deal and to even get that close for a home studio is amazing. I would recommend these speakers 100%. I’ve been mixing on B&W 803’s for a very long time at my studio and the 308’s are a nice, affordable solution for my home setup.

Amazing sound for 8" speakers
Still breaking them in, but right out of the box they sounded amazing and loud. First song was Rob Zombie's Drsgula, and the bass and guitar hit HARD. 🤘

Music to my ears!
These are wonderful. I have difficulty hearing thru the tinnitus I have and need balanced high quality sound or it hurts my ears.I go direct from my computer into a THX 100 DAC, then to a 15 band equalizer and into these speakers. My my. I can have music in all day and not be bothered because the sound is so clean.I set the volume on the speaker midrange and control the volume on my computer. A bit awkward so I spent a few minutes tweaking it. And I don’t have to mess with speaker volume anymore.I’d by these again in a heartbeat.

Not the greatest
Doesn't push out nearly as much as my smaller studio monitor.
