I believe it is. Ours is an early one of the 5th generation machines and it works well with it.

Does the makerbot replicator already have this extruder +? or do i need to get it?

They have 3 models Replicator Z18, Replicator min+, and Replicator+. All 3 come with the Smart Extruder Plus. I bought a Replicator about 3 years ago and I don't think they would dare sell any Replicators any more without this plus series extruder as it is night and day with the reliability. I went through 3 extruders on it before I got the plus last July. Their treatment of customers could have been better as they really owed it to their customers during the initial period till the got the plus extruder developed. I loved it even back then with the constantly jamming extruders. Now it's like an entirely different machine now and I have been using it constantly since I got in in July. The machine is fantastic now and customer relations don't matter anymore as with no jamming there is no need to even contact them any more. It's just we shouldn't have to pay full price to replace an obviously defection design. But my anger has subsided as I love the machine now.

unreliable, expensive and good luck getting any help with it

It will jam before its ridiculous 6 month warranty is over and then you'll have a choice, go through the procedure to return it to be repaired or replaced (only if you have been using over priced makerbot filament) or void your warranty by doing the two second job yourself, so then when a real issue comes up a few months later, good luck getting any help from makerbot.when I say real issue, here are some issues I've had with ALL of the different smart extruders I have owned. Slipping, not extruding consistently, filament leakage, heating errors. I have done everything to amend these issues right down to the software, but in some cases the problem was un-fixable. and I had to figure it out on my own because their support would not respond to any of my tickets.
