Fantastic! Just what we needed.
After many long weeks of research, we decided on this Panasonic Unit. It was sold out many weeks in a row from Amazon and Direct from Panasonic. We can see why. It's simply a wonderful compact CD player. It looks sleek and nice, perfect size, easy to operate, has a very good and compact and cute remote control with nice large buttons and is legible, and above all, it just works great and sounds wonderful. Every CD we put in, whether made in USA or overseas, just works and loads fast. Very clear sound, really good bass and low end and good trebles, and all genres of music sound fantastic on it. Enjoying all our old CDs very much. Bluetooth works seamlessly and has very good volume. LCD panel very clear. And a huge bonus...it has a front headphone jack!!! That is an absolute must. We've seen many CD players now that don't have it and can't understand why wouldn't manufacturers include one? For listening when we don't want to disturb anyone during the day or at night, it's a standard must and we are very happy to see Panasonic included a headphone jack on this unit. It works great and is very clear. My only wish is that Panasonic had other color / finish options besides just pure Black. Like a warm cherry wood or white would have been really nice to fit different decors. But, all in all, fantastic unit. Very Happy with the unit.

Small but Mighty! (in certain situations anyway)
I really miss the old days of loud stereos that you could really FEEL that music & rock the windows! Now, while this will definitely not rock any windows, it's good for a smaller spaces and sounds good...AND if you put it on a table near the end of a couch & lie down (with it behind your head), it's EXCELLENT!! You can REALLY hear and feel the sound (just like those old days!) - and THAT is pretty awesome! Good old-fashioned musical therapy, ya know? :) There are several equalizer settings you can choose from, plus you can adjust bass and treble as well. It paired very easily w/my phone when I tried the bluetooth option. Both CD & bluetooth worked well. It also has an FM option w/an easy to use antenna that plugs into the back securely. There is also a USB port on the back if you need one of those. The lighted display is very easy to read & the instruction manual is good. The remote control is excellent & I really like it. It's built so much better than the cheap, thin, little annoying ones I've used before. (note: the remote does takes one AA battery which is not included) Overall, this is a small but mighty little sound machine - and when I say "mighty", I mean listening to it on my couch like I mentioned. Otherwise, it is just fine for basic, good music in a room(just not at a window shaking level). Because it's not too heavy, it's very easy to move if you decide to use it somewhere else. Just unplug it from the wall, then unplug the speaker wires(the ol' red/red, black/black wire attachment) and bam - it can easily be moved around. I really like that option too. Overall, for the price, it's a good deal, but the sheer awesomeness it has when you listen to it on a couch w/it near your head is worth every penny! I felt like I was 14 yrs old again drowning in some good music....love it!

Perfect Shelf Set Up for the Discerning Shopper
Perfect for the money! I live in an apartment and wanted something for my bookshelf that was better looking and certainly better sounding than a boombox, but more price conscious and less involved than an AV set up. This hits the sweetspot of sound quality, build quality, and functionlity very nicely. The speakers sound robust - no tinny tweeters - and have nice little feet on the base so they stay put if you bump them accidently. Additionally, their output is tremendous! You can really dial in between volumes needed for soundtrack and metal. The volume knob has a very satisfying resistance to it, it doesn't feel cheap and flimsy, so delightful --- if you even get close enough to it to use the knob because it comes with a very nice remote. The remote also has built in feet and I just really appreciate the feel of it in the hand and the presence of of it - you wont misplace or drop it accidently. Does not come with batteries, which is fine, but be aware. The bluetooth function is easy to use and a delight to have. The drive is only good for a single cd at a time, but for the money and the tech age, expecting more from a shelf set up is where the buyer should be looking into AV/Surround products like Onkyo, Yokohama, etc. Im so enamored with it in the bedroom that I may lose my mind and buy one for the living room for the vine alone. If you're back and forthing over a different model, go with this one - the brand name recognition is what drove me but quality is what convinced me. Its a superb little set up for a small space. Cons? Maybe the power cord is a little short? But that's really neither here nor there.

Excellent sound!
I’m glad I got the 80 watt system instead of the 20 watt one. The sound is excellent and clear! The remote works well but don’t lose it because it controls most of the features. The only thing it doesn’t have that I’d like is, there is no balance control (can’t make one speaker louder than the other). I like its size, fits well on a dresser. It plays CD-R. If CD is boomy sounding, there’s a few settings to adjust easily. I haven’t tried the USB or the Bluetooth yet.

WARNING - CD PLAYER ON BOTH UNITS DIED AFTER 2 DAYS
Had to change my rating from 3 stars to 1 star. The CD player on the first AND the second replacement unit died after 2 days. "No Disk" error, even for disks that I had played the day before. These were all commercially prepared disks, carefully stored. They were not recordable audio file disks. After getting the "No Disk" error, I put the CDs into a 25 year old Panasonic portable stereo/boom box, where they played just fine. Before dying this it had decent sound. Not great. Certainly not up to the standard of my old Denon bookshelf stereo of 26 years ago (which died after just 20 years). Surprisingly some local radio stations are picked up with the tiny antenna that is provided. THE POOR QUALITY CONTROL BY PANASONIC IS ASTOUNDING. Used to be a great, reliable brand. Now that the CD player on the replacement unit failed exactly as the first one did, I'm sending both back for a refund. >FROM MY INITIAL REVIEW: My initial reason for a low rating was the illegible lettering on the controls. Tiny light gray letters on a black background. You will not be able to read the labels on the controls unless the unit is placed on a shelf that is at eye level, with a bright light on it. I had to place mine on a shelf only 3 feet off the ground. I cannot read the labels on the controls unless I squat down and shine a flashlight on it. The remote is simple, clearly labeled, and it works to operate most controls. Back lighting for the controls would be most welcome, but likely not feasible for something this small. That leaves bigger text as a solution.

Great system but speakers (woofers) need to be larger in my opinion.
This is a good system for the money. The main unit and remote are excellent. Bluetooth and radio work very well. Cd player plays CD-R as well as manufactured CD's. For a small room it's pretty good. However, I changed out the speakers with used larger bookshelf ones because they have 6.5 inch woofers and sound warmer. Better low end. That was 40$ extra but worth it because now I love the system!

A dream to set up and to listen to.
First I bought cheap CD no name players ranging in price from $66 to $165 and had to return them because either they didn't work at all or one had a player with "pops" like you'd hear on an old vinyl record no matter how new or old or wiped with alcohol the CD was. Then I bought this Panasonic and it's a dream. Less than 5 minutes to set up. Great sound. Treble and bass controls. Round volume knob for quick and easy volume adjustment. Easy Bluetooth hook up. Controls on both the remote and the unit. Nice looking. CD function nice and smooth. Let me tell you, avoid the no name brands!

Pretty decent sound, nice features
The CD drive on my Sony shelf system I'd had for years died. I tried cheaping out with a Sarp all-in-one unit but the sound was thin and lacked depth so I got this instead. While the Sony speakers may have been a little better, this unit has pretty decent sound, a nice, compact remote and even has a "surround" setting amongst the sound controls. I have this in my bedroom and use it exclusively for a rain sound CD while going to sleep. The Sharp unit just didn't sound good for that but this Phillips does a good job, especially with the surround enhancement. I tested a couple of music CDs and they sounded pretty good, too. The size of the main unit is fairly compact, smaller if somewhat taller than the Sony it replaced. One nice feature (which the Sharp also had) is that the unit goes to sleep after a period of inactivity; the Sony was always on, for years and years. Another nice feature is auto scan and assign presets on the radio. One con - the USB slot is located on the rear of the unit, which could be inconvenient for some users.
