Taking The 5th Grade
Used to love watching Recess as a child & when i noticed this DVD i just had to buy it, it's still as enjoyable watching it now as it was back in the day.In this DVD you get 3 stories T.J. Detweiler vs. the Board of Education, The Fifth and Sixth Graders Club, & Halloween. All very good stories that are built into a 1 hour episode. Also as a bonus there is 2 normal episodes too, The Break In & The New Kid, which are in-fact the first 2 ever episodes of Recess from 1997. These 2 are just as funny & just as good as the new Taking The 5th Grade part of the DVD.

Who said growing up had to be a bad thing?
This Recess special picks up where the School's Out movie left off. It also seems to wrap things up for the devoted fans. It even includes two classic episodes; the episode where T.J. gets detention and the one where Gus first arrived, both a great addition. Overall its a must have for anyone who liked the series as much as my son did.

Recess - Taking The Fifth Grade
This DVD is very entertaining and contains the usual Recess-based themes (friendship, loyalty etc.)T.J. and friends return back to school only to find that a series of drastic changes have been made which means they do not have anymore recess! T.J. stands up to the changes by going on strike, as he builds up a bigger following, the Board of Education becomes involved in an attempt to change the way things are run. When all is better and everyone has returned back to school, the gang are introduced to a secret club reserved for fifth and sixth graders only, as the gang hang out in the club they find themselves becoming more like Lawson and his gang and quickly turn themselves around. After this it is Halloween time and the gang are all hyped up for Trick or Treating apart from Spinelli who has other plans...I enjoyed this film, if you liked Recess - School's Out then I'd certainly recommend seeing this as its just as good.

The final school bell
At the age of 27, I can say without any shame whatsoever how much I enjoy 'Recess'. This show was a staple of my childhood, one I would watch avidly on 'The Disney Channel' every day after school, and I very much enjoyed watching the adventures of these kids from Third Street School again recently on Disney Plus, which ranks as one of my best investments this year.In 2003, two DVDs were released and I remember how excited I was looking at the full-page advertisement in 'The Beano'. At the time, I no longer had anyway of seeing this show, so relished the idea of catching up with these characters again and following their new adventures. I bought both of them, 'All Growed Down' eventually, and 'Taking the Fifth Grade' immediately. Initially, I was disappointed, for whilst I liked this one a lot better, I did feel that a show of this calibre should have had a much better finale. After all these years, I gave it a second go, and whilst I still believe 'Taking the Fifth Grade' to be nowhere near as entertaining as the series, it wasn't quite as bad overall as I remembered. This film has three segments, 'No More School', 'The Fifth and Sixth Graders' Club' and 'A Recess Halloween' in between a commentary by T.J., the leader of his group. As I've discovered recently, of these were actually intended for another series, but it never came to the function so we got the DVDs instead. One of the things that is instantly noticeable is how many of the characters sound so different as the actors behind them went from kids to adults. T.J.'s voice artist Andrew Lawrence was replaced by Myles Jeffrey, and I still maintain that they could have found someone better to do the job, with respect to Myles.
