honestly for the price you cant beat this. its super cheap and you get a massive amount. if youre just throwing it in chili, tacos, or a bbq rub, its totally fine. tastes like garlic, does the job. the health nerd breakdown (why its not for longevity): 1. if you follow folks like peter attia or listen to huberman and you're buying this for heart health/arteries, this aint it. here is why: heat killed the magic: cheap bulk powder is almost always spray-dried with high heat. that heat kills the enzyme "alliinase." 2. no enzyme = no allicin: without that enzyme, the powder cant create allicin (the compound that actually helps your heart) when it hits water. the sniff test: i mixed this with a little water and waited 2 mins. if it was medicinal, it should burn your nose with a sharp sulfur smell. this just smelled like pleasant toasty garlic bread. that means the enzymes are cooked off. pros: 1. insane value for the money 2. great mild flavor for everyday cooking 3. expires in 2028 (bought 2025) so it lasts forever cons: 1. zero "medicinal" pungency 2. wont do much for blood pressure/plaque (you need freeze-dried or aged extract for that)

Most of the garlic powder used in U.S. brands of seasonings comes from China. The country that produces the most garlic powder worldwide is China, followed by India. Even though McCormick doesn't make it noticeable on their product pages (no pictures of the back of their garlic powder bottles), their product is also from China. So you pay more for the name brands, but the quality is probably not all that different. For all I know, both brands have their garlic powder processed in the same factory, or use garlic sourced from the same farms. I say all that to say, if you notice that this garlic was made in China, don't let that deter you from ordering it. Since most brands you come across for it will come from the same place. It's less expensive than the big name brands, yet the quality is about the same. In fact, it's even cheaper if you're a Prime member and order it along with about fifty bucks worth of products that fall under the same category (Happy Belly and other Amazon pantry type brands). It pays to order a bunch of herbs and spices from those brands all at the same time, you'll shave 20% off your shopping cart total during checkout. So when it boils down to it, this is a good garlic powder to choose. Good quality, and no one that I cook for can tell that I used the Happy Belly brand as opposed to some big name brand. Plus it costs less. So it's a smart money choice and good for a happy tummy if you pick this one.
