fits more than advertised
im actually able to get 11-12g in this filter with the correct amount of space leftover. pretty fantastic as this gives a nice middle ground between the 7-9g single shot filters and the 14g+ filters. To my knowledge this is the only 54mm filter that allows for that dosage.

Breville Barista Express 54mm filter basket
Quality seems to be good, but unfortunately it doesn’t work for me. I have a Breville Barista Express with 54mm portafilter, and usually brew single shots coffee, which with the original single filter basket, takes 9.8 grams of coffee to get the perfect rich and bold aroma, and a puck that comes off with a single stroke, very well dry and compact. After many tests with the IMS filter basket, I ended up having to use 12.5 grams of coffee to get a similar result, and grind much finer the beans to actually achieve the same result in the cup. The IMS filter basket is simply too big for my machine, in facts compared to the original single filter basket, the IMS one is taller and wider at the bottom of its conical shape, resulting in a larger volume, hence the need for more coffee. Any less than 12.5 grams would leave too much room between the tampered coffee in the filter basket, and the top of the group head, creating an open space for water turbulence, resulting in a very sloppy puck, no matter what grinding level, finer or coarser. As rule of thumb, you want the coffee puck to touch the group head just enough to not have any free space in between. Volume in the filter basket matters more than grinding, when dialing in your espresso. Once you get the volume (coffee weight) dialed in, then you can “fine tune” the grinding to reach the perfectly balanced bold taste, not sour nor acid. Point is, for a single shot espresso you should have somewhere between 8-10 grams of coffee. More than that, well… it’s then a single and a half espresso… which means you need to increase the yield time to counterbalance the aroma… Sorry for the nerdiness here, I have a passion for espresso, coming from being Italian (born and raised for 40 years, then moved to the US, but still holding my roots). All in all, I have no doubts to believe that the IMS filter basket is a good product, but unfortunately not for my espresso machine.

more than a single shot
I like it, but it's definitely more than a single shot. I can fit 14g of coffee in it! and if I use the single shot button then it tends to be under extracted.Of course, there is always some user error involved, but still giving it 4* because sometimes you really did just want 10-12 g and not a nearly double shot :). It's good quality for sure, just be aware. If you compare it to the stock basket, you can also see that it has a visibly taller inside wall, so it's not just me being bad at coffee.

Good quality, but it's a 1.5 cups size not 1
The quality is good. It holds maybe 12 to 13 grams of coffee if you want to avoid a watery mess in your puck. Quite a lot more than a normal single shot basket
