How do you open it to replace battery? Cannot unscrew mine.

The bottom of the flashlight, where the button to turn it on is, unscrews. The first time I tried it I had a little trouble too for some reason. Once you get it though, it's easy the next time.

what are the O rings for? where does it go?

The application of an "O" ring usually is done for a very good water tight seal. I looked at my flashlight and found an O ring on the removable rear cap and mode switch. There is also an O ring, OR more of a flat-shaped washer most likely Neoprene, in the very front, removable "lens cap". These 2 O-rings make this flashlight water resistant, and dust proof. I have 5 of these flashlights in various places. A GREAT small, but powerful flashlight. Very nice as a small gift at Christmas time.

Does the setting change to a different setting every time that you turn it on and off. Or does it stay on the same on until you change it?

Honestly, we gave it as a gift but my recollection after trying it a couple of times was that the focus remained the same until you changed it. To change the focus you physically move the cylinder and it turns on and off by a button in the back.

Does the flashlight get hot to the touch when on?

Yes it gets warm but not hot to the touch seems to be normal I left mine on for at least 2 hours until the battery started to run low
