Water Level Sensor is an elegant method for monitoring my sump pumps
I've been a little paranoid about my sump pump recently. I have three pumps in my sump well, a primary pump with its built-in vertical float sensor, a secondary backup pump with a vertical float sensor positioned so that it will not activate unless the primary pump stops working, and a 12-volt pump that runs off a 100 amp-hour AGM battery kept charged using a battery tender. This 12-volt sump pump is my pump of last resort in case of a power outage, and its float will not activate unless the sump water level gets above both the primary and secondary pumps. With this setup, it's not easy to tell when my primary sump pump stops working. This YoLInk Water Leak Sensor 3 solves this problem. The sensor comes with a water sensor probe, which I did not use. For sump wells, they suggest that you use a float switch instead of the included probe since the probe terminals could become covered with mineral deposits and reduce their water detection sensitivity. I ordered the 'Level Sense 15 Feet Water Level Float Switch with Mounting Bracket' from Amazon and it works perfectly for this sump well application. I just had to wire in a standard 3.5mm male plug to the end of the float switch wires to be able to plug into the YoLInk Water Leak Sensor. The YoLink Water Leak Sensor requires the use of an inexpensive central hub (I bought the YoLInk SpeakerHub). It communicates with the hub by use of a long-range radio that has up to a 1/4 mile range and uses very little power. The two standard AA batteries in the Water Leak Sensor should last for one to two years. Setup was quick and easy. You just install the YoLink App onto your cell phone, plug in the hub anywhere in your house, and connect it to your home WiFi. Then you can easily add the Water Leak Sensor to your system by scanning the QR code on the sensor. The YoLink ecosystem has many different types of sensors, alarm speakers, switches, etc. for constructing very elaborate home automation systems. This Water Leak Sensor is a good introduction to this ecosystem, and I'll certainly be considering other home automation options. I attached the small Water Level Float Switch in my sump well so that it would not activate unless the sump water level rose above the normal maximum level permitted by my primary sump pump (but below the level where my secondary sump pump would activate). Now, if my primary sump pump stops working, I receive both an email alert as well as an app notification on my cell phone letting me know that the primary sump pump has stopped working. You can also set up the app to text you an alert, which I have not yet done since you are limited to 25 free SMS texts per month. Since the YoLInk system is compatible with Alexa, I also have all my Alexa devices announce that my primary sump pump has stopped working (easily done with an Alexa routine). In addition, I have set up my YoLInk system to notify me when the float switch opens back up, since this tells me that my secondary pump has run successfully, giving me peace of mind. The YoLInk Water Level Sensor is an elegant method by which to monitor my sump pumps. Now, no matter where I am, I'll know if my primary pump has failed and needs attention as well as whether my secondary backup pump has successfully run. I'm also impressed with the entire YoLInk ecosystem.

Easy Set Up and Reliable
Easy set up and stays online unlike my previous Flo sensors. The leak detection is VERY sensitive. It detected a small amount of rain that was coming in by the water heater vent, wasn’t causing a problem but previous sensors didn’t catch. It’s takes awhile for the sensor cord to dry so it can be reconnected. We just got an extra cord to plug in while it’s drying.

First, it’s important to know this is just the same “Water Sensor 2” sensor as YoLink’s rope-style water leak sensor and their remote cable style water leak sensor. During setup, it gets configured as their remote cable sensor, but the alerts are simply inverted, so that it alerts when “dry” rather than “wet”. Where this is important is in how the sensor communicates and behaves. Because the sensor is, at its core, a leak sensor, it tends to get very chatty if the body of water you are monitoring for level with this sensor has any chop, as in, say, a swimming pool (even one that’s not actively in use.) I didn’t mind this, as I turned off the alerts and was simply intending to use this with a Home Assistant automation to selectively trigger and stop an auto-pool-refill function. However, it seems like this extreme chattiness may be having other adverse consequences in how the device interacts with YoLink’s platform. I don’t have confirmation yet, but I suspect my device’s updates are being rate-limited by the upstream servers. This unfortunately results in the sensor becoming “stuck” in either the wet or dry reading, regardless of what the sensor’s float switch position actually is. And when the rate limiting (or whatever the problem is) finally resolves, if the float switch doesn’t again cross over the trigger point, the sensor will remain in whatever erroneous position. This has caused me to overfill my pool a couple times as I did not realize the issue was occurring. So, if you have a glass-smooth water surface, such as in a closed reservoir or a small indoor aquarium, where the float switch is reliably either on or off, this may work for you. But for anything where the sensor may tend to cross back and forth over the trigger point cintinuously, such as with any sort of automations, this may not be the best solution. I am currently in the process of working with YoLink support on the issues I’m having, and I will update this review with the results. To their credit, they are extremely helpful. Already they have sent me a replacement sensor to see if that would correct the issue (but it did not). I am now awaiting their next response after giving them detailed feedback. Update: within a week of my previous review, YoLink support informed me of a new updated firmware they had available that would allow a delayed reporting interval for water level alerts. In the computer programming world, you might call this a “debounce” capability. With this firmware update, I can specify how long the sensor must continuously register a water exhausted warning internally before reporting it in an upstream alert to the servers. After applying this update, and some back and forth with support regarding some behaviors that still seemed to not be quite right, I can now say it seems that the sensor is performing as intended for my needs in monitoring the water level in my outdoor swimming pool. I am of course still closely monitoring it to make sure it doesn’t overfill my pool again, but I am cautiously optimistic that YoLink has, with this update, corrected the issue I was having. I am really impressed with Yolink’s responsiveness and willingness to help me find solutions here. I don’t know if the minor firmware update they made available is something they had in the works already, or something they added at my request, as it was very much aligned to a suggestion I made that might alleviate the issue. Either way, it was rolled out seemingly in response to my troubles in a very short order. Kudos to them! I am raising my review rating to five stars (previously 3 stars) for now. Assuming the sensor continues to perform as it is now, the 5 star rating will be deserved. If not, I will return again with an update.

Unique Sensor That Works Excellent
This sensor, that can work by itself or also works along with the YoLink suite of sensors is unique in that it uses a cloth like braided material surrounding a long sensor element that when the second it gets wet sounds an audible alarm and if you have it configured with their app it will send you text and / or email alerts every 5 minutes or so. You can place it around the bottom of a water heater or sink cabinet or A/C pan to cover a larger area so a leak can be detected as early as possible. If you need to cover a larger area you can link more sensor cables together, although I have not tried this or have not seen where you buy extra lengths of sensor cable. Of course, I did test the sensor and it reacts to even a drop of water and once the sensor cable gets wet is will alarm for quite a while even if you have tried to dry it with a towel. So I thought since this was just a test that I would just unplug the sensor cable and wait for it to dry out,,,, at which point, it started sending me texts every five minutes that the sensor cable was unplugged. Now while annoying, I thought that was pretty genius on the designers part since you would really like to know if the sensor had become unplugged (Think, for example, if you had moved some items underneath a sink and it pulled it out), well the sensor would no longer be viable but you wouldn't know until the water was running across the floor. Not with this little device as it will send you a notification. I have only had the system in place for two months (they also have other sensors available) and the battery levels are all still indicating full so I have not seen how well that feature works as it is supposed to track the battery level of the sensors. ( not sure if it sends an alert about low battery level) All in all, this is a slick set of sensors and while the app is a little bit clunky to get everything named and organized, once it is setup it is transparent. I hope this company can stay around to help support their product and possibly add other sensors to their repertoire.

Soooo farrr so good
Up front it seams great but only time will tell .... that and if there is a sump pump failure, it notifies me and saves me a flooded basement. ---------------------------------------- Oh... here are a few details about Yolink sensors and hub you really do need to know. All yolink sensors of any type communicate with the hub and the hub communicates with the yolink server and the server communicates with your cell phone and the yolink app. You might think this is bad but I actually love it. Here is why. You link can send you a text or an email if a sensor is tripped. But if that text or email winds up on your phone how do you know it got there? Does your phone make some special beep when a yolink email comes in or a special sound when a yolink text comes in? As for the text I do know how to customize my text to make a special noise but I don't bother. Why don't I bother? Because I set the yolink app to "app only notification". Well ladies and gentlemen.... I found a notification reader app for my phone. It reads yolink notification out loud. Not text, not email but app notifications from the yolink app. It can be set to only read notification from any certain app you want and not from apps you don't want. Get this... it has a time delineation setting.... LOL your thinking WHAT? No it does not delineate time... It delineates THE time the app reads notifications out loud. Here is how I set it, I have it set so the app reader only reads yolink notifications at night. Not during the day time. My wife hates hearing it during the day and evening. During these times the notification makes a small sound. I know to check the notification. My wife can't hear it. So get all that? Yolink could have an "in app reader" or "announcement" that could simply say out loud what sensor just got tripped. But yolink wants you to pay them for a text service that can send a lot of text to you. NO... you don't need that. Install the notification reader, it is called "voice notify" version 1.3.1, it is awesome. It truly completes the Yolink system and makes it what it truly should be. A way for your phone to tell you what door or window or yolink sensor just got tripped and it can happen while you are in your easy chair at home, or, in an airport on another continent on the other side of the planet. ~

So good, just do it
The rope is very sensitive and reusable. The range will be reduced by walls and other obstructions. A couple of my sensors are at their range limit at 400 feet through building walls and nestled beside equipment. Overall a well built product and great value. I now have 11 installed in my apartments and already one has help me respond quickly and avoid expensive damage repair.

Consider the cable extension for a washing machine
Installed this around/under our washing machine. It was a bit difficult to hang the sensor and then string the cable in the tight space around the washer without moving it. The cable was long enough to run around the back of the washer where the water hoses are attached. It might be a good idea to get the add-on cable so we could extend it to the front of the washer as well. Overall, I'm happy with the YoLink system: easy to set up, attractive, effective, and reasonably priced.

Perfect for Monitoring Christmas Tree Water Levels
I bought this to monitor the water level in my Christmas tree stand, and it’s been perfect for that. It alerts me when the water gets low so I can refill it before the tree dries out—no more needles all over the floor. Setup was easy, alerts are reliable, and the LoRa range works great even with the tree not near my router. For a non-traditional use case, it’s worked flawlessly. Simple solution that actually does what it’s supposed to do.

Mon préféré des détecteurs de fuite YoLink
J’utilise plusieurs détecteurs de fuite YoLink dans ma maison. J’ai commencé avec les petits capteurs ponctuels, qui fonctionnent très bien, mais après avoir essayé ce modèle avec câble de détection, c’est celui que je préfère. La grande différence est la zone surveillée. Le long câble, qui ressemble un peu à un lacet rond, est lui-même sensible à l’eau sur sa longueur. Lors de mes tests, littéralement une goutte sur le câble suffit à déclencher l’alarme. Je trouve ça particulièrement intéressant sous un électroménager, puisque l’eau n’a pas besoin de couler exactement au même endroit qu’un petit capteur ponctuel. J’en ai un sous ma laveuse et un autre sous ma sécheuse à thermopompe. Je n’ai heureusement pas encore eu de vraie fuite avec ceux-ci, mais mes tests de détection ont été très concluants. Attention de ne pas confondre les modèles YoLink avec un fil. Il existe aussi un modèle dont le fil se termine par une petite sonde de détection. Ce n’est pas le même principe. Celui que j’évalue ici possède un long câble qui détecte l’eau sur sa longueur, et c’est précisément ce que je recherchais pour couvrir une plus grande zone. Petit conseil si vous testez le câble : une goutte suffit! Évitez de trop le mouiller pour vérifier son fonctionnement. Il prend un certain temps à sécher et, tant qu’il reste humide, il continuera naturellement à détecter de l’eau lorsque vous le reconnecterez. L’ajout à mon système YoLink a été très simple, comme avec mes autres capteurs : une fois le hub et l’application déjà configurés, je scanne le nouvel appareil et il s’ajoute pratiquement tout seul. J’ai reçu un exemplaire défectueux qui refusait de s’ajouter. Après avoir cherché un moment ce que je faisais de travers, j’ai finalement compris que le problème venait du capteur. Le retour Amazon a été extrêmement simple et son remplacement est arrivé rapidement. Aucun problème avec les autres. Je n’ai pas encore eu à changer les piles. J’ai également intégré mes YoLink à mon environnement domotique. Je peux voir l’état de mes détecteurs dans l’application Domicile grâce à Home Assistant et même demander à Siri s’il y a une fuite dans la maison. Cette intégration demande évidemment une configuration domotique supplémentaire; ce n’est pas une fonction autonome du capteur. Ce modèle coûte plus cher que les petits détecteurs ponctuels, mais sa grande surface de détection justifie la différence pour moi. Si je devais recommencer mon installation aujourd’hui, c’est celui que je choisirais partout où son format convient.
