I love it
So good it inspired me to write a novel. Here is an extract: "I opened my eyes. The light from the sun hit them immediately, but had no effect on my vision. I could see every ray of sun entering the room from the window of my bedroom, every spec of dust settling on the large white bed I lay upon. There was no limit. Even after all this time, it was still amazing to test my incredibly heightened senses. Although since I was changed I physically can't sleep, I enjoyed sort of reinacting the activity, by lying down, closing my eyes, and letting my thoughts consume me. After what seemed like an eternity, I sat up. I breathed in deeply, catching a sweet scent that made my throat burn uncomfortably. I thought nothing of it, knowing the only thing closest to a human in the area was my half-immortal daughter. Admittedly as she gets older -which is extremely rapidly- her smell is becoming more appealing to me. Of course this isn't a problem with my undeniably unusual self control surrounding my thirst. Still, it's better to be safe than sorry. I slid off the bed and floated towards the mirror opposite, examining the beautiful woman looking back. I still found it extremely difficult to come to terms with the fact that this was my face. The womans eyes were jet black, with dark circles lingering unwantedly beneath them. Time to go hunting. "

A great read for horror fans
After reading the first volume 'Days Gone Bye' I immediately downloaded 'Miles Behind Us' and was not disappointed. These six issues focus on Rick's budding friendship with Tyreese who comes into the comics a lot ealier than he does in the show and has more of a pivotal role. He helps out more, acts as Rick's second in command and does not do any whining which annoyed the hell out of me in the show. We are introduced to Hershal's family at the farm and a lot of the arc on the show sticks closely to that of the comics with a fue subtle changes here and there. The most obvious being that some of the characters are still alive that are dead in the show and vice versa. I was hoping to see more of Andrea and Glenn but I guess their arcs will develop as I get further into the story. Carol has been the story quite a bit in these issues and she seems very different than her show counterpart - she is younger, more outgoing and happy and one of the more optimistic members of the group. One thing I've noticed is that the undead aren't referred to as 'Walkers' in the comic but reffered to by their original name 'Zombie' (or occasional 'Roamer'). It is so much fun reading the comics after watching the show to see how the characters and story were originally conceived but I still do find myself missing Daryl who is a fan favourite on the show. Overall, worth reading if you are a fan of the show or a fan of the Zombie genre in general.

On the road
Second volume in the collected editions series of horror comic the walking dead. Depicting the struggles of a group of survivors in the world post an outbreak of zombies having led to the collapse of society. Led by small town sheriff Rick Grimes, they struggle to stay alive. This being a horror comic it does contain strong language and situations and thus is for adults only. his collects issues seven to twelve of the comic. All together as one long narrative with no breaks between any of them. And with a short afterword from actor Simon Pegg at the end. This volume might work as a jumping on point, but you are probably better off starting with the first one. Quite a lot happens over the course of the six issues in this volume. It begins with a flashback to a moment in time that has had consequences for Rick's wife. And the couple struggle with the choices that result from this. That's not their only problem. The group has to stay alive. Find food and shelter. And decide whether or not to trust any other survivors they meet. Especially those who might have a different way of dealing with their situation. They have to come to terms with the fact that the way of life they knew has gone. And may or not come back. And they have to deal with grief. Something everyone handles in a different way. This is thus the best kind of speculative fiction because as it forces it's characters to consider those things, it forces the reader to do the same. You will also find sections that get the adrenalin going as they have close encounters with the undead. The volume ends with a surprise discovery that should lead to interesting events in volume three. The first volume was a good start. This is even better. Things are moving along very nicely now, and this should make you very eager to find what happens next.

The Walking Dead Volume 2
Make no mistake - this is one of my best "buys" of recent months. I hadn't read any of TWD comics before but had heard many good things about them. I therefore decided to buy the first four volumes as a "taster". I loved the books and actually ended up buying the much larger Compendium books (volumes 1 & 2) which collate the all of the "Volume" books up to Volume 15 or thereabouts. So my suggestion is: if you are intent on buying this, go ahead - the quality of paper, binding and print is fantastic. That said, if you think you might get "hooked" on these comics, you may want to go for the two Compandium books, which are even better value for money.

The Walking Dead, Vol. 2: Miles Behind Us
Following Shane's betrayal, Rick becomes the de facto leader of the group. When a routine foraging trip its wrong, Rick makes some new friends and eventually sets his sights on a prison as the group's new home. Some thought provoking issues are raised as the group is forced to question their treatment of zombies and Kirkman et al pull no punches with either the plot or the artwork.

Great!
I decided to read the comic books after being an avid fan of The Walking Dead tv series for years. Volume 2 doesn't hang about. it moves quickly and the characters have to deal with a lot of things, from within the group and externally. Character interaction is great and it really zones in onto what makes the TV series great: the action packed sequences and the 'dealing with it' character development. The only drawback is knowing the general gist from the TV series. However, this is nowhere near as big a deal as it could be! Get this read!

Great Read Worth The Money
I love the illustration style. The story following on from book 1, is just as compelling as the first. I hate myself for reading it so fast, but its hard to put down. I may have to read it again. Looking forward to reading book 3, 4, 5 ... and the others soon. Recommended to anyone who enjoyed the WALKING DEAD tv series. The previous book. Or any fans of the Zombie Horror Genre.

Fan des Walking Dead de la première heure, je continue à les dévorer comme au début, contrairement à la série qui m'a déçue. Les premiers volumes se relisent avec nostalgie :-)
