captivating throughout. could not put it down.
After reading the Seven Sisters saga I did not think I will find another story by Lucinda better or matching the quality. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this time she did not dissapoint me. I loved every page of that book and could not wait to read it. It was most interesting and captivating with every sentence. The plot and how it unveiled was incredible. I loved it every bit if it and now can not wait to read other books by Lucinda.

Sweeping, emotional, and full of atmosphere
"The Midnight Rose" is one of those books that pulls you in with its rich sense of time and place. It weaves together two timelines—one set in modern-day England and the other in pre-Independence India. The historical sections were my favorite by far; the descriptions of India and the love story felt vivid and deeply layered. I found myself much more invested in Anahita’s story than the present-day characters.Lucinda Riley’s writing is elegant and absorbing. She has a way of creating atmosphere that really immerses you. That said, the modern storyline didn’t quite land for me. The romance felt a bit rushed, and some of the dialogue was a little too convenient. But the mystery that links the past and present is compelling and kept me turning pages.It’s a long book, and it takes a little time to get going, but once you're into it, it becomes hard to put down. The themes of love, loss, and legacy are handled with care, and the ending is emotional without being overly sentimental.Four stars from me. Not perfect, but a beautifully written and memorable read.

Brilliant!
Like all Lucinda Riley books this one covers all the emotions whilst reading. The characters are so believable and their story covers love, intrigue and deception over three generations. Highly recommended.

The Midnight Rose - amazing book
This book turned out to be very special for me! I read it because I love everything have read by this talented writer. As I delved into the story, the maharaja of Cooch Bahir came into play! There is a row of houses on the sea front in Bexhill on Sea, close to Eastbourne where the girls were educated. A family friend lived in the main house, which belonged to the Marahaja and where he would stay, presumably to visit his daughter and her companion. I could never understand why this royal patronage was in this small seaside town, but thanks to Lucinda I now know! The story was that these houses were built in the Indian style, with the main house for the royal family and the adjoining houses for his retinue, it makes perfect sense now! I lived in Bexhill for many years, most of my family still there or close by, I have since returned after 25 years in Northumberland, another amazing part of England, and now live between Bexhill and Eastbourne. This was a brilliant story, made special for me, I recommend it highly as a great read, a real page turner and unputdownable! Thank you Lucinda RIP

A heartbreaking story but one that is so wonderfully written, it mustbe read! I thoroughly enjoyed this and stayed up far too late to read just one more chapter.

What ab enthralling read
As ever, Lucinda Riley never fails. This held me from the beginning to the end. The twists and turns in the story left me wanting more. Of course, this is now impossible since the death of Lucinda Riley but I will continue to read every book available. For those who've not read any of her books I suggest the Seven Sisters books to start you on a long and interesting journey of literature discovery.

Roman mit geschichtlichem Hintergrund
Ich habe dieses Buch schon vor einigen Jahren gelesen und habe es jetzt in Englisch bestellt. Es ist auch in der Originalfassung einfach zu lesen (jedoch nicht für Anfänger, es bedarf schon einiger Kenntnisse). Der Inhalt ist für mich faszinierend: die Verbindung von historischem Hintergrund im Indien des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts und der Geschichte einer jungen Inderin ebendort bzw. in England. Auch beim zweiten Mal kamen mir am Ende die Tränen.

Poignant, moving, sad with moments of great happiness, hope and love, this is a book to be savored. I’m sorry to come to its end, but I hope there is a sequel as another part of the story has begun and this time, who knows?!

Another spectacular read from Lucinda!
I found Lucinda Riley this year when my sister recommended to me the Seven Sisters. I devoured all 8 books in just over two months I loved them so much. So I am continuing to buy her books. Just finished this one and again, could not put it down. It traverses various time periods again, and the countries of England and India. Always hard to read about the prejudice that existed and also the suppression of woman, but important to read and remember. The twists and turns are amazing. Don’t want to include any spoilers so will stop here. Fantastic read! On to finding my next Lucinda book! I am sad to know that she passed in 2021 as at some point, I will read everything she has written with no more hope for what could come.
